Doctor's POV
I had gotten permission to take Emma out of the hospital. Emma was so happy when she found out, she was jumping up and down like a little girl who got her dolls. She sounded like one, too. "Yay yay yay yay yay yay yay yay!"
"Calm down," I told her. "You still have to get changed out of your...gown."
Now I was waiting for her to finish getting dressed. I was holding Luna in my arms as I waited. She was really soft and warm, just lying there in my arms. She yawned in her sleep and kicked her legs. Crystal was next to me, curled up in a ball on the chair, past out. Emma came out just then. She was wearing leggings, combat boots, and a leather jacket over a simple white shirt. "Isn't that the same leather jacket you drowned in?" I was quick to point out.
"She drowned once?" Clara sounded incredulous. Just then, Crystal woke up and sat up really quickly, just barely hitting her head on the arm rest of the chair. "Who dat?"
"Come on," I told them. "Places to be, people to see, let's not sit here all day and let our lives go to waste. Let's go!"
"Okay, okay," Emma said. "Can I at least have Luna back?"
"Sure," I said, handing her her baby. Luna opened her eyes and closed them when she saw her mother. I pulled Crystal out of the seat, and with much steadying, we got her walking.
*********
Once we got back to the TARDIS, Crystal passed out again on the couch. Emma put Luna in my arms and scooped Crystal into her arms to put her to bed. I sat down on the couch with Luna. Luna woke up again and started crying.
Emma heard the crying and ran back into the room. "Oh, no, what now?"
"I think she's tired," I said, standing up and passing her to Emma. "She also doesn't like being handed back and forth."
Emma, knowing I spoke all languages, nodded. Clara looked at me like she didn't understand, but I left the room to get the crib I always had.
Once I got it, Emma noticed the Galifreyan on the side. After reading it over, her face scrunched up but she didn't ask. Instead she put Luna in the crib and Luna stopped crying. Instead, she just stared up at us, then closed her eyes.
"I've seen that crib before," Clara said. "In this one room, on the TARDIS... it was where I first saw those things..."
I knew what she was talking about. It was when she got lost in the TARDIS.
Emma didn't question it, though. It was one of those things I liked about Emma, about how she never questioned unless it was really necessary, and that was rare. Instead, she asked, "Where did you get this?"
"It's mine. When I was Luna's age, I slept in that same crib," I said. Emma nodded. "Gee, it's old."
I nodded and looked down at Luna. Clara just sat there, staring at us, until she burst out, "Not trying to be selfish, but you guys are ignoring me. Will you please stop with this mushy stuff?"
"Nah..." Emma gave her a crooked grin. "We can't. You wanna know why?"
"Why?" Clara sighed.
"'Cause this might surprise you, but we're not being all mushy," Emma cocked an eyebrow. "Wadda think of that?"
Luna made an unintelligible noise that I translated to, "I hope not. That would be nasty."
"Yeah, especially since it's the Doctor," Emma grinned.
"You know, I was kind enough to allow you to use the crib, and I can take it away and have Luna sleep in your arms," I threatened. Emma raised her eyebrows. "Now, why punish Luna? She did nothing."
"Good point. But I could've left you in the bottom of the Hudson, stuck to a car tire," I said.
"Ooh, so now the Doctor's making threats he wouldn't have the guts to follow through with," Emma stuck her tongue out at me. It was quiet for a moment, then Clara remarked, "She's so tiny." Clara had came over and knelt by the crib too.
"I know. She's premature," Emma explained. Clara nodded. "Wow." Then she asked me, "Are we going back the safe place?"
"Safe place?" Emma asked.
"It's like a hotel. It's where we realized about the flesh," I explained. Emma nodded. "I really like this design of the TARDIS, by the way. It's so simple."
I shivered when I remembered the flesh had said almost the same thing. Suddenly I remembered about Athena. "Oh, Emma, I've got Athena. Do you want me to get her?"
She nodded and I went to retrieve it. When I came back, she and Clara were deep in conversation about traveling. Emma stood up when I came with her owl back pack. "Thanks."
I shrugged. "It was nothing." I went to the TARDIS console and flipped some switches and took us to the hotel.
