I texted Jayla when I got home.
"Hey, do you think I could come over for the night? I'm all alone."
As I waited for her to text back I went and grabbed a cold shower. Oh how it felt nice.
When I got out I checked my phone and saw Jayla had responded.
"Sure! come on over!:)"
I smiled. It was going to be fun hanging out with her.
I pulled out my neon green Nike bag from my closet. Opening my drawers I picked out an old soccer shirt that belonged to my brother and a pair of plaid bottoms. I walked to my bathroom snatching my toothbrush and toothpaste from the counter. I sighed slipping on my shoes and making sure Oakley had food and water for a day.
I walked out of my door to my car, turning on the air conditioner and driving with the music on low.
Arriving at Jayla's I collected my stuff and walked to the front door, ringing the doorbell. Her mom answered. Jayla's mom has always liked me since I first started hanging out with her daughter. I was Jayla's first real friend in 5th grade and for that Mrs. lends was grateful.
"Hello Hayden. Jayla's upstairs in her room. It's great to see you."
I greeted her back and headed foe the stairs.
When entering Jayla's room you're welcomed by bright yellow walls with movie and music posters. In the corner her bunk bed stands next to a window letting the sun seep through. I've always liked her room. It was a lot brighter and homier than mine. I looked at Jay's desk to see her head poked into a book.
"Hey nerd"
I always called her a nerd since she constantly had a book in her hand and a pair of glasses not to far away.
Jay looked up and smiled brightly at me.
"Hey punk. What are you doing?"
"Standing here, admiring your room."
"Yeah it's nice. You say the same thing whenever you come over."
"Well, I like to make it known."
She just smiled,
"So what do you wanna do tonight?" I asked
"Talk about boys, eat, watch movies, sleep. Sound good?"
"I guess Jay"
I put my bag down by her bed on the floor and plopped down on the bottom bed, facing her.
"So, how was your school day, I barely saw you?" She asked
"It was ok. Not much happened until Science."
"Oooo, what happened in Science?"
"Well, you know that Michael kid? Well he sits next to me and we had to work on a packet for our first unit...together."
The look on her face said it ALL.
"No Jay, I don't like him. He's a bad influence and treats girls like crap"
"Oh come on Hayden you know he's cute, you just don't want to admit it to yourself. He's your type. Remember Tommy?"
"Yes and Tommy was the worst mistake I've ever made."
She rolled her eyes at me. She thought I would have something else to say but I gave her my I-don't-wanna-talk-about-it-look.
She smiled and shook her head at me.
"Look it can't hurt but to be nice to him. I mean he's new and probably doesn't have many friends?"
"Okay, listen I saw him with a whole group of the popular kids. He's got friends. And be nice? Ha when have I ever been nice? You know how I am. Especially after my Aunt died."
She sighed at my answer looking sadly out of her window, like she was in song.
"I know how that affected you but it's Senior year it's supposed to be fun and explore. We're adluts now we have a responsability." she fired back
I shook my head getting upset. I never cried though. Never. Not after what I've been through.
I fell back onto the mattress and sighed. I always got frustrated easily and I would most times blow up at everyone. But, no one questioned me when I did.
Jayla patted my knee and smiled at me, apologizing to me silently.
I smiled back thankful for friends that understood my pain and my sadness at times. After Jay and I's small disagreeing we went downstairs and made dinner for her mom, since her dad was working the Night shift, it was just us three.
Her mom thanked us and we both went down stairs to watch our favorite movie: Insidious.
Of course I loved scary movies but no matter how many times I watch that movie you can bet I'll jump every single time. I'm a wimp.
The movie ended and It was close to mid-night. So, Jay and I ended up going to her room and going to bed.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was woken up by the sun shining brightly in my face. I checked my phone and saw it was six in the morning. Which was strange because I went to bed late. Yawning I kicked my legs out of the covers and reached for my bag that had the clothes I was going to wear today. It was thursday so I was just going to wear some sweatpants and my brothers hoodie.
You can probably tell it's my favoriye hoodie ever.
I stood up and changed quickly, not waking Jayla.
I brushed my teeth and hair. I then woke up Jay and told her she needed to get ready. She groaned and sat up. I waited ten minutes for her in the kitchen while eating a bowl of cereal.
"Good morning Hayden!"
She sounded and dressed too nicely for a Thursday morning. I looked like a zombie compared to her. She looked really nice.
"Morning, Jay"
I'm so tired. I want my bed. I want my dog. I don't wanna go to school and see him. I dread this.
As I thought all of these things I failed to hear Jayla talking to me.
"Huh?"
Jayla sighed, looking at me with a look that said are-you-deaf-or-tired.
"I said do you want to ride with me or take your car?"
"My car. So I can go home after school and take care of Oakley."
She nodded her head and grabbed her floral backpack.
I waved to her as I backed out and started heading towards school. On the way there I was dreading my classes with Michael and I was really tired due to not going to bed my normal time. Never again. I needed my sleep. The drive was short because Jayla didn't live but 10 minutes away. For that I was thankful. I did not trust myself with a 30 minute drive from my house.
Pulling into the parking lot, I drove into the spot I usually parked in and sat there for a moment thinking wether or not I should wait until the bell rang or just go inside.
Thinking, I got out and headed to the building. I saw no black car. Thank the lord I didn't have to face purple hair this morning. I was not in the mood to talk.
I walked through the breakfast line and grabbed a bagel with water. Thanking the lunch lady I walked into the hall and headed to the library to get some peace and quiet for a few.
Walking through the shelves of books, I found a huge book about famous musicians. I made my way back over to a table to look through my book.
I didn't get to far in the book before the five minute bell rang. Sighing, I closed the book and decided to check it out and read it later. I headed to first hour english and found my seat in the back and sat down. As the other students came in I noticed Michael came to class early too.
He walked over to his seat in front of me and smirked at me before he plopped down.
Why did he do that?
I shook my head from my thoughts.
It was going to be a long, tiring day.
