Dear Sophia,
That Five Guys we had today was certainly...something. Not as good as In 'n Out or Tommy's in the West Coast, eh?
Love,
Older Sister

1 Year Later (16 years old)
"I do not understand why you have to cover my eyes with your hands, for I am perfectly capable of doing just that by myself. You aren't even covering Jem's eyes!" I flapped.
"Unlike you, dear sister, I know where we are going and why." Jem replied in a cool voice. I had just noticed, but my brother's and Will's voices had gotten deeper and smoother in the recent year.
"Does it have something to do with the surprise party that Will planned for us since last month?" I guessed.
I heard Will gasp. "How did you- I mean, even if I did throw you two a surprise birthday party- which I did not!- how would you have figured it out?" Will gulped.
"I don't know, maybe because when I brought up that Jem's and my birthday was fast approaching during dinner, you nearly spit your water onto Jem, who was across the table from you. Or maybe when I saw you sneaking around the Institute in the general direction of the ballroom this morning and Jem took extra measures to prevent me from entering? I am deaf, Will, not blind." I responded.
"Well, if there was a party, you must act surprised because it took us a lot of work to put it together." Will prompted.
"Oh, all right. Whatever will make you sleep better at night." I promised.
We three came to a stop in front of, what I think to be, the ballroom. The door swished open, and I was led into the tiled floors. I heard the door to the room close with a click and a pause before Will moved his hands and voices screamed, "SURPRISE!!"
I blinked and took in my surroundings. I knew that Will and Jem had taken a lot of effort into arranging the whole thing, but I didn't know that they put this much effort.
The party was set up in only a fraction of the large ballroom. Small tables covered in my twin's and I's favorite color, sea side green. Perched on top of the tables were small vases of violets. Standing around us was a semicircle of friends.
Gabriel and Gideon Lightwood were smiling brightly at me, Charlotte was smiling quite proudly at Will, Henry looked quite confused, Sophie stood towards the back, in the shadow were almost no one could see her, and Jessamine looked bored.
"That's why it took you so much effort, Will. You had to convince the Lightwood boys to attend!" I signed when everybody stopped crowding James and I with wishes of a happy birthday.
"I'll tell you, it was like wrestling a shax demon dipped in oil." Will admitted. "They were positively adamant on not listening to my proposition until I brought up your name. Then, they were practically shaking my brains out for information."
"It probably didn't help that you broke Gabriel's arm and embarrassed their little sister last year at their Christmas party. Or that you use every opportunity you can to rattle Gabriel's chains." I contemplated.
