Chapter 18 – Mysteries and madness ©
I brought myself back to the present day at the Gate where Gorgio still sat waiting on one of the sofas impatiently. Of course he had no idea why he was waiting and that made me chuckle. So much for the great Gorgio! I plopped down next to him and wondered where I should start first.
"Hello young one! Is it you the grumpy one's waiting for?" Mary walked sprightly into the Gate room and addressed me.
"Yeah sorry about that. I hope he didn't try to get you with his awesome ninja skills." I said sarcastically and she laughed heartily at me while shaking her head. "Actually before you go do you mind if I see who's been coming and going recently?"
"Sure Lovey, you know where the records are kept. Does this have to do with that girl that tried to attack you?" She asked curiously.
"Actually it does. Do you know a Christine Walker? I just found out she's a Splitter so things could get hairy unless we get both parts of her back together." I explained and Mary's brow furrowed.
"Well the only really young ones that have come through recently have been you and His Highness. Wait no there's been a blonde girl that heads through every now and again. Hmmm what's her name? I think it was Christabel or something like that." Mary mused. I felt my heart leap with anxiety; I had wondered whether that was why she was proving to be so elusive.
"I need to know her proper name if that's not too hard Mary?" I enquired and she shuffled off with a nod.
I leaned back into the couch and prayed to the Goddess for some good news. My mind wandered to what Dwayne had told me and I groaned Monday was not going to be fun. But then I forced myself to think about it logically.
If I was going out with Dwayne would I have bothered saving Caden from the tower? Then I would have missed out on my life bond and he would still be trapped. So maybe it had all worked out for the best. I still felt bad that Izzie was the one that got duped.
Mary marched back in and handed me a piece of paper with the name Christabella Bide on it. I felt like throwing up with the surge of apprehension that went through me. Was she actually my sister? Had Jillian my biological mother had another child?
"Uh thanks Mary, this will be invaluable." I said in as clear a voice as I could muster around the desperate need to escape.
"You alright Lovey?" She asked worriedly as she put out a hand to steady me.
"Ah yep it's all good." I muttered as I gestured to Gorgio that we had to leave. "Come on Gigantor we've got some bad news to spread around." I told him.
"My name is Gorgio." He insisted.
"I know but you refused to talk to me when we first met so I get to call you whatever the hell I want." I stated blandly and I heard Mary chuckle as we went through the Gate.
I held my hand on the doorknob of Ben's office for the longest time. The last thing I wanted to do was to upset my father about his non-existent life bond. Why was I always the bearer of bad news? Gorgio was impatiently tapping his foot so I decided to wait just that little bit longer to annoy him before pushing the door open.
"Um I've got a ton of bad –ugh." Caden quickly snatched me into his arms, taking my breath away "News." I finally finished.
"I hate it when you Travel." He muttered in my ear and I could feel the anxiety rolling off him.
"Well its fine so let me go so I can breathe." I told him reassuringly.
"Well tell us what you found out then." Ben ordered softly.
