Chapter 31:
The eye of a vulture?
I stared down at the Arctic wolf, confused out of most things.
Why did it call me master? And aren't Arctic wolves supposed to be in the North? What are they doing here? I don't get it.
I looked behind me and saw Archer getting out of the water and joining me. As soon as the wolf saw Archer, he growled. It snarled and crouched in a fighting stance, baring its canines at Archer.
"Woah, bud, that's my mate nothing to worry about." I told the wolf and scratched behind its ear. It stopped snarling and growling and repositioned himself properly, he laid down on his stomach and purred as I continue scratching behind its soft ear.
"It better not be thinking you're his." Archer growled and I giggled.
"It's a wolf and I'm a werewolf, we're different and he knows that." I answered and Archer gave me a puzzled look. "I read his mind and he believes I'm his master, or something like that. He swore to protect me." I explained and he rose an eyebrow amused.
"Master, hm? I've heard of those before in one of my dad's books in his study room when he was Alpha. It's like as if the wolf was a dog, the owner buys the dog and trains it, keeping it under its wing until they don't want it or it dies. But in this case, the dog is a wolf, the owner is the master, the master doesn't buy it's wolf, it finds it and the wolf is forever stuck with its master until death. I guess they're kind of like mini protectors or soldiers that will stand by its master in combat or any situation whatsoever. It's pretty rare to have one, my great grandfather had one. It was a Grey wolf and his name was Tarts because his favorite treats were tarts. Unfortunately it's not something that is passed down from generation to generation. It usually skips many generations and if you're lucky it only skips two or three. The chances I get one are very slim, but you're lucky. You didn't even have to search for it, it came to you instead. You've got a smart one, maybe even wise."
I smiled at Archer and looked at my wolf. It laid on the ground, staring back at me with sparkles shining bright in its eyes like I'm the only thing that matters to him. I probably am since I'm his master and his duty is to stand by my side.
"So you're saying, that I'm stuck with this wolf for life? Am I'm married to it?" I asked and Archer bursted into a fit of laughter. Her crouched over his stomach and held them as he laughed away. I glared at him until he sobered up.
"Oh my god. That was funny." He breathed out wiping a tear out of his eye.
"No kidding." I muttered and he smiled lovingly at me.
"No, you're not married to your wolf. It's more like a companion than anything else." He answered and I let out a sigh of relief. Thank god I'm not marrying a wolf, that would be too awkward.
"So what you're saying is that this wolf." I pointed at the Arctic wolf by my feet. "Will accompany me everywhere I go?"
"Yes, unless you tell him not to." Archer replied and I nodded taking in this sudden information.
"Ok, what about the rest of the pack?" I asked gesturing to the pack of wolves behind the trees staring right at me, sending daggers.
"They won't have a choice but to leave their Alpha and find a new one." He answered and I looked at the wolves. They started growling and my eyes widened.
"I don't think they like me." I stated and Archer chuckled.
"Probably not, their Alpha is leaving them to be with you. Of course they'll hate your guts for taking away their leader."
