-Cassie POV-

I walk out of my last class of the day. Of all the people in the world, of the thousands of children in this world, I'm stuck with her.

The brat, Liz.

For a science project.

I sigh and grab my stuff. Is it time to leave? I don't know, sometimes I'm so forgetful I forget the year. I just decide to start heading home.

I walk down the hall towards the front doors, past my Science Partner and her group of brats.

They all hate me, Everyone at school. No one really likes me here; I act strange and don't act like the girls in the "popular" group do. I wear mismatched clothes, but always the same colors: purple, black, red or white. But I'm fine with it, I have my music and iPhone.

My thoughts drift back to Liz. Who does Liz think she is, having her shoes all tied perfectly, her glasses neat and straight — I shake my head clear of ridiculous critique and start on my way home again, pushing through the front doors.

I start to walk. Pulling out my phone, I start up some music. My eye catches my favorite game, so I open the app and start playing the game a little, thinking nothing of the ten minute walk.

Suddenly, I feel a hand on my shoulder. I swear, my heart just stops for a minute before I turn around and see Liz, with that smug look on her face.

Well, I better get used to it.

She tries to tell me something, but I can't hear her through my earbuds, so I shrug her off and keep walking. I know she'll probably follow me till she has to change direction to go to her house.

I keep walking, not hearing anything through my earbuds, not even the rumble of a truck's engine nearing the street I'm walking across. I notice the truck right as it's bumper gently bumps my side, a horn blasting through my barrier of music.

I scurry out of the way and take the chance to just run from Liz, who was following me halfway to my house and trying to get me to listen to her.

-Liz POV-

What. An. Idiot.

I swear to god, this girl won't live past freshman year. ESPECIALLY if she keeps acting like she's married to her phone! Seriously, who almost gets run over just to see a screen??? Heck, not me! Well... Maybe that's because I only have a small track phone, for "emergency calls" only...

I give a long sigh, finally heading toward my own home. Geez... I'm probably going to be the only one carrying our grade on this project. I just silently pray that she'll keep her shit together until this is over.

Stepping up to the door of my house, I take my key out of my backpack and quietly enter. The house is silent as always. Letting out a sigh, I head to my room to start homework.

Ah yes, home sweet home: a one story building with six rooms and a basement. Some wonder about my eagerness about grades... But truth be told, I do it for my mom. She fights to keep us, my older brother Jacob and I, in this district, always taking jobs where she can find them, and for the past month, that's been the night shift at a printing company. We cut a lot of corners, hence my low grade phone... I sigh. Well this is depressing.

I trade a few quick glances from my backpack to the school phone directory. Hmm... Should I call Cassie's home phone? Well, Jacob isn't home yet, and neither is mom, so what's the harm in trying to get this girl to listen to me? I smirk, picking up the directory and my phone. I feel like this call would be inevitable anyway. I punch in her number and wait as the phone rings, praying I reach a parent.

My face lights up in a grin as her mother answers "Hello? Who is this?"

"Uh.... Hi! I'm Liz, one of Cassie's classmates. I was wondering if we could meet to talk about a science project we need to do?"

"Oh of course!" Her mother cheerily replies.

I faintly hear a "Who is it?" on the other end of the line. Grinning, I listen as Cassie debates her mom about meeting me.

"-and that's final! Oh, Liz dear, would it be ok to head over right now?"

"Of course! Thank you so much!" I answer, turning off my phone. Ha... She can't ignore me forever...
