Quite a while had past for Lilly and her friends. They decided to celebrate the few months that they had moved in together on the surface by eating out for dinner. It seemed like a good idea to them to eat somewhere fancy (even though none of them were relatively close to that title). They threw on some nice clothes and started to head out.
Once they got there, they all stood in awe at the huge restaurant. The server unknowing broke their amazement.
"A table for three?" She asked politely.
"Oh, yes please," Lilly answered.
Sans and Papyrus looked a little uneasy, it was easy for Lilly to spot. She looked around and soon noticed as well, this place was filled with humans, the only monsters in sight were her two friends behind her.
"Hey, relax. I'm sure there aren't just
humans here," she whispered reassuringly.
"Nah, it's fine," sans answered for the two of them. Papyrus nodded in agreement.
"I'm happy as long as they have good spaghetti!" Papyrus exclaimed.
They reached their seats, trying to avoid some nasty glares. The group ordered their drinks, and tried to think up a cheerful conversation.
"I hope this place is somewhat as good as Grillby's," Sans started.
"Of course ya goof," Lilly laughed as Paps shook his head.
"Anything is better than that grease trap."
Sans smiled to himself.
"Hey, that's almost a pun Paps! I'm proud!" He responded.
Lilly was enjoying the conversation until she realized they were getting rude looks,
She of course didn't mind but she thought about her friends. The drinks finally arrived, and the waiter took their orders. Everything was fine until they heard some snickers from the table next to them.
"How can they even drink?" One girl asked sarcastically.
"Yeah! It would go straight through them!"
"Ew, I don't want to watch that while I'm eating!"
"Monsters are just gross in general, I thought this place was only for humans."
"They should just go back to the underground!" The wretched group of girls howled with laughter. Lilly had enough, she quickly jerked up out of her seat. She began to storm in their direction until Sans caught her by the arm. They both exchanged silent nods, which lead Lilly to sit back down. If Sans wasn't there with his common sense, the group of girls would have surely payed a visit to the hospital.
The three finished their meals in silence, trying to think of a topic to lighten the mood.
"Did you two like your food?" Lilly finally asked.
"Yeah."
"Yup."
Growing tired of one-answer responses, she decided to change the conversation again.
"We will get the check soon, then we can leave."
"Alright."
Papyrus continued to sit in silence, until he thought of a new conversation.
"I really like the spaghetti here, it might even be better than mine!"
"That's because it's edible," Sans responded teasingly.
"Hey!" Paps uttered defensively.
Laughing, Lilly spoke up.
"Okay guys, that's enough."
The conversation was finally taking a happy turn, until Lilly looked over to see one of the girls standing next to Papyrus.
"I hope this skeleton of yours doesn't make a mess for the poor waiter to clean up."
"What?" Lilly replied demandingly.
"Well, it doesn't have a stomach. So the spaghetti would go straight through right? Not a pretty sight if you ask me. Please think about the people around you next time you take these things with you!" Both Papyrus and Sans stared at each other in shock. Sans finally went to say something but Lilly beat him to it.
"What do you mean 'it', Papyrus is a living being just like you. The only difference is he has feelings." She glared at Lilly in disbelief. Sans, on the other hand, was cracking up.
"Now this skeleton is laughing at me? Oh please, the only one that should be laughed at here is you. Wasting your time on these things." Lilly was fixing to swing until a waiter stepped in. He was tall with tan skin, along with dark brown hair that hung close to his eyes.
"Ma'am, I'm going to have to ask you to leave." Surprised, Lilly gave in.
"I'm sorry, we were about to leave anyways. I didn't mean to start a fight by coming here."
"No," he replied firmly, "we only accommodate customers we want back at our restaurant. You ma'am, are free to stay."
"What!?" The hateful woman yelled, "Don't you want to think about the greater good of this restaurant? You will get better business without these things in the way."
"These young men are not 'things', please leave this restaurant at once." The woman stormed out and her wicked group followed her.
"Thank you so much!" Lilly thanked.
"It's no problem, is everyone okay?"
"Yup, we're all good." Sans answered.
Lilly sighed in relief. If it wasn't for him, she could have been involved in a real fight. Paps decided to speak up as well.
"Would you like to hang out? You are very nice and we could always use more friends!"
"We could head outside and talk for a little, my shift is about done anyways."
The new group of four walked outside where it was nice and quiet.
"Oh, I'm so dumb. My name is John by the way."
"Hah, we forgot too. I'm Lilly."
"Sans."
"The Great Papyrus!"
"I heard your names already, nice to meet you three."
"Nice to meet you too," Lilly answered.
"So how are things going with your friend?" John asked curiously. Lilly giggled at this.
"Which one? I kinda made a lot of friends in the underground." John realized his careless mistake.
"Oh, never mind then."
Lilly was a little confused by this, but she brushed it off.
"So, have you met any monsters?" Lilly asked changing the confusing subject.
"Kinda, they all seem nice. Especially you two." Sans and Papyrus both looked at each other in agreement. John seemed to want to be in another conversation.
"I'm not going to tell anyone this, but I found a library that had a book about monster and human history. It said the humans trapped the monsters underground and they needed seven human souls to break it." The three looked at each other uneasy.
"I'm sorry if I'm making you uncomfortable, I'm just curious about something. I have had a bunch of questions for you since you broke out."
"It's ok," Lilly responded, "questions lead to open minds!"
"I'm not mad about taking human souls or anything, I won't tell anyone either. I was just wondering how they all broke out but you stayed alive. Did they already have seven souls?" Lilly looked at both Sans and Papyrus for approval before she continued.
"There was a flower that took all the human souls, along with the souls of the monsters in the underground. He became a godlike creature, then I had to save him and he broke the barrier." She knew this answer was very vague but she couldn't think of a good way to put the scenario into words.
"That's... Interesting? But along with that, how did you make it out alive in general? Wouldn't it require powers? Magic?"
"Well I did have the power to respawn."
Slightly frustrated that she didn't understand what was going on, john thought to get straight to the point.
"Yes, but did you use your powers to get out? It seems like it would have taken forever to reach the surface without them. You must have died a lot." Both shocked and confused, Lilly didn't know how to reply.
"You mean my power to respawn...?"
John signed.
"I'm guessing you don't know about your magic yet."
"The only powers and 'magic' I know of are respawning, talking to... A friend, and resetting." The last part caught Sans' attention, he already knew but he didn't like her saying it.
"I haven't reset though," she said glancing at Sans.
"That's great and all," John interrupted, "but I'm wondering how you made it through without your main powers. I know you have powers, I have them too."
"Do you know who my friend is?" Lilly finally asked.
"Stella."
"Why don't you ask her, maybe she'll know what the heck is going on here."
"Maybe I will" Just as he said that John, disappeared in a cloud of black smoke.
"Poor Stella." Sans whispered.
"Who is he...." Lilly asked desperately wanting an answer.
