~I simply love the fact that everyone I thought to be friends, turned out to be my enemies, and enemies, allies and friends in one night... but what's this power? It beckons to me, tempts me, it turns me into a monster.~
Deception
Michael
I could not believe how she just left like that. Did she not take anything into account? She didn't remember our times together? All she focused on was the bad times that just happened to be more than the great ones?
I wondered if I have failed. Just as I had failed him. Him. My biggest regret. And to see him again was supposed to alleviate my guilt... but it didn't. It made it worse.
He had become my nemesis. The thorn in our bond. I had failed him; now I will pay.
I didn't want to keep this from her. I didn't want her to know that this was my redemption mission. One to let the Protectors regain trust in me again after that incident. But I had failed it again, my target to protect lost to an unstoppable force.
Maybe I had lied to her for the sake of the mission. Maybe our love wasn't true. Maybe I was caring just because I was acting according to the Protector code. But it can't be all fake. What was the short moment of love we shared the other time? Was that on impulse?
Now I'm technically the last of the Protectors. Everyone else is gone. There's no way I can save them now.
He's reached his goal. I can remember his resentful gaze, his words to me before we parted, "Help me, Michael!" And then, he was consumed by a dark, endless pit. I wonder how he became who he was...
He was doing this to get revenge, wasn't he? I had let him get his way, maybe due to my ineffectiveness, but I have a responsibility unparalleled by any other now. I have to stop him before the situation spirals out of control...
Storming out of my daze in my room, I went out of the cube shelter Elise had created, alone. Fallen were roaming the plains as if they were zombies.
One of them almost set their eyes on me. I had no idea how to react, and so ran into the trees, hopefully leading me to a town to source out some brave souls... and possibly Protector survivors hiding somewhere.
"Ahh... where's dinner?" Oh no. Desperately searching for something...I checked that I was not in Knight form.
"Oh, look what we have here?" He found me, although just in time, I hid my face in a mask coincidentally found on the ground, just when I needed it.
"And who might you be?" I asked as he checked me out.
"Well, just human. Unlike those zombie asses out there, plus their talking counterparts, I'm just a survivor. You... you aren't one of them, are you? You're masked, just like them."
"Well, I'm not comfortable giving my identity to strangers at this point in time... but the name's Michael."
"Trevor. If you don't mind staying in this dark a while longer... let's go get some food. It's going to be very difficult if we don't get it now."
"No. We don't need to." I was out here long enough. Students were stuck, fearing for their life.
"And why do you say that?" Trevor seemed surprised.
