After what seemed like hours Hector and Grace pulled silently into the Assumption Parish road property. The night was silent. However, light burned in the windows of the rustic old lodge that sat down the end of a long drive, surrounded by cypress trees.
Caylin shivered in the back seat. Wondering where the damn ghosts were.
They pulled to a quiet stop and two more cars pulled in behind them. The radio crackled, and the black white units reported they had the road block up and units standing by.
Hector thanked them and then almost jumped out of his skin when Tony Belle quietly knocked on the glass of his window. Sharon Durant and her guys stood beside him.
"What' s the plan?" Asked Sharon when Hector rolled his window down.
"Caylin says they are inside here, I say you have your boys run pointe, you and Grace find a front or back door to enter, I will find the door that corresponds to the light.
"What do I do?" Asked Caylin.
"You stay here with me!" Said Tony poking his head in the window.
Hector pressed a button on the console and the back doors unlocked and Tony jumped in beside her, and wrapped an arm around her shoulders.
His warmth was so welcome, she snuggled into him.
"So, she's still with us?" Tony asked. Caylin nodded.
"For now, the ghosts need us to hurry." She answered.
"Okay, let's hustle!" Grace said and opened her door, Hector followed, admonishing Caylin and Tony to stay put. They nodded.

Caylin watched her friends move off through the trees. Hoping she was right, hoping her ghostly friends were right. That her friend Leanne was within that house, alive and intact.
Tony spoke soothingly to her, and tried to bring comfort.
Caylin appreciated his efforts, but she felt as tightly wound as a guitar string that was just about to snap.
They sat in the quiet of this strange unseasonable night, and watched the snow fall.

Hector quietly made his way towards the light. He tried to listen for the murmur of voices but the wind was keening too loudly.
He saw Grace and Sharon peel off, Grace heading for the front door, Sharon looking for a side entrance. Both of them silent and fleet.
As Hector got closer to the door he became more sheltered from the wind, and it was then he heard them talking. He could here a deep male voice, and the soft reply of a woman. Leanne was trying to appeal to him, he was undecided. This had to get wrapped up now, the crescendo was coming.
Hector quietly put his hand on the door knob, it was freezing. He quietly turned the knob and pushed.
Light spilled out onto him from the kitchen where, Leanne Louise sat, much to his surprise wrapped in a blanket and a mug in front of her. The man sat across from Leanne, his head in his hands and sounds of anguish coming from him.
Leanne saw Hector first from where she was sitting and her eyes widened in surprise. Hector stepped silently into the kitchen, and leveled his weapon on the back of Larry Edwards' head, "New Orleans PD Mr Edwards don't move!"

Larry Edwards sat up in his chair, he looked at Leanne. She looked surprised, her eyes wide with fear. Had she betrayed him? No she couldn't have. She had no phone and she'd been with him all the time.
He turned in his chair and found himself staring down the barrel of a 48. Chief's Special and the steady gaze of a burly male detective.
He heard Leanne gasp and turned back to her. Now there was the nice lady detective quietly coming out of the dark living room behind Leanne, she had her gun pointed too. There was a loud bang in the laundry room and a soft curse, and out of there stepped Shaniqua Durant.
"What the hell?" Larry said getting to his feet.
"I said don't move Mr Edwards!" The burly male Dectective said again. "Put your hands on your head and drop to your knees."
Larry just stood there gaping at Shaniqua, so she was a cop. Bitch!
"Special Agent Sharon Durant Mr Edwards. FBI, now do as he says." She ordered.
"Leanne to me honey!" Said the nice lady cop, Leanne bolted from her chair and ran to her. She pushed her behind her. All the while keeping her gun level.
Larry stood frozen in place, they'd caught him. He'd avoided them for so long, been so careful how did they know?
"How did you find us?' He asked.
"That's not important Mr Edwards, please do as I say. Put your hands on your head and drop to your knees. You can't run you have no where to go!" Ordered the big cop.
Larry closed his eyes and did as they said. Then he remembered his phone in his pocket, and made the mistake of reaching inside his coat.
"Stop right there or I'll shoot!" Warned the detective, "Keep your hands on your head." Larry then turned towards Hector again his hand still inside his coat and began pulling out his phone, intending to show it to them. "No!" Yelled the FBI Agent, followed by the loud report of a gun and the stink of hot powder.
"Don't hurt him!" Screamed Leanne.
Larry then felt something hot pass through his shoulder, and was knocked to the floor, hitting his head, and everything went black.

Caylin and Tony had been sitting in huddled silence, when suddenly the sound of a gunshot rang out in the quiet darkness.
Tony tried the door but Grace had locked them in. Caylin was frantic, pulling on the handles beating at the glass as the uniformed back ups took off past the car towards the house.
Tony grabbed her holding her close and she collapsed, sobbing in his arms feeling helpless.
But when she looked up, there standing in front of the car was the spirit of Donna Louise, she was smiling giving her the thumbs up, and then she was gone.
Tony saw Caylin looking towards that spot. "What it is it?"
"Donna, I think everything is okay!"
"Then it is!" Tony said squeezing her a little tighter.
"How do you know?" She asked.
"Because, you're always right." He replied.
Caylin smiled, but she knew, it wasn't her at all, she was only the messenger. She hoped her ghost was indeed right.
And it was as a group of people emerged from the trees and an ambulance. screamed by them up the drive way, the snow finally stopped falling, and the wind grew silent.
