"Look Eds I-I'm not so sure about this." (y/n) said fearfully as anxiety began to bubble up in her stomach, her determined friend still pulling her towards the big white building.
"I know you don't want to do this, but we gotta," He said stopping for a moment as they approached the large doors. People and workers alike all leaving and entering in a hurry. "I'm sure they'll give you a lolly at the end, they always give one to me."
"Well you're always here, I'm sure you're the closest they get to a regular here." she said in retort. Eddie didn't let it get to him. "I don't think they like my mom very much, but the nurses are always nice to me." He said, laughing out loud.
Holding the door open, Eddie ushered (y/n) into the hospital. A tight grip on her wrist to keep her from running. The familiar smell of disinfectant reached (y/n)'s nose, her stomach turning with worry as she began to feel faint. Eddie looked over to her, the big smile on his face dropping as he saw her sickly green complexion.
Placing his hands on her shoulders to steady her he looked into her eyes, a faint hint of worry hidden behind his irises. "(y/n) I'm gonna need you to breathe slowly, in and out. Alright?" She nodded in response.
He made a show of evening his own breathing to help calm her. His chest heaving up and down with every inhale. Eddie raised his eyebrows at (y/n) as her face regained her natural color.
"You feel a bit better?" Letting out another breath she responded with a tight lipped smile, "Yeah a little." Even though she still feel the anxiety in her stomach bubbling over with every step she took, (y/n) also felt brave because of the boy in front of her that had continued to pull her along.
With wide eyes she spotted the large overhead sign that said 'vaccinations' in bold lettering. She felt her confidence fizzle and stopped in her tracks, tugging back on Eddie's grip. "I uh, I take back what I said. I wanna go home."
Turning back to her Eddie pulled the scared girl into a hug. "Look, I know you don't want to do this, but you can. I've known you forever and you never back down from a fight. Its just a quick prick and then its over I promise." He held his hand out to her expectantly as he pulled away.
Hesitantly she accepted it and they walked hand in hand together towards the sign in the distance.
Approaching the desk Eddie turned on his charm as a large smile appeared on his face. "Hello, Miss. I'd like to get a flu shot for my friend over here." He said jutting his thumb behind his shoulder and towards the shaking girl. Her eyes darting between her friend at reception and the exit. Her leg bouncing up and down as she tried to calm herself down.
Zoning out at the eerily white walls, the calls of her friend snapped her out of the fear induced daze.
"(y/n)! (y/n), its time." Eddie called out her from the receptionist desk, trying not to attract the attention of the other patients. Standing up on shaky legs, (y/n) pushed herself off the chair and towards Eddie and the smiling nurse behind him.
The nurse escorted the two of them towards a bed covered with a strip of wax paper. Leaving the room the nurse returned with a covered syringe. (y/n) felt her heartbeat rattle her head. Her hands grew clammy as the nurse removed the cover and revealed the thin needle.
Her breath hitched in her throat.
Eddie noticed the change in his friends expression, moving forward and grasping her chin lightly and turning her head towards him. "(y/n) I need you to look at me and not the needle. Can you do that for me?"
She hesitantly drew her attention away from the needle and looked into Eddie's deep brown eyes, nodded in response. She heard the nurse begin to countdown next to her as she prepared for the pain.
"3..2..1″
(y/n) felt the sharp needle pierce her skin but all she could feel was Eddie's lips on hers. Closing her eyes their lips moved in unison, the pain she previously felt fading away.
They detached from each other as the nurse placed a band aid where the needle previously was. "Okay that's it. I'm gonna leave you two love birds here for now, just make sure you're outta here in five."
Their cheeks tinted red when they heard the nurse say 'love birds' the somewhat awkward tension rising as the nurse walked away. (y/n) rubbed the injection over the band aid, feeling a dull soreness begin to set.
Eddie cleared his throat as he looked at his shoes. "So that wasn't so bad was it?"
(y/n) continued to play with the edges of the band aid. "No, I thought it was rather nice." Eddie looked up at her in confusion, his eyebrows furrowed slightly. "You thought the shot was nice? But you're terrified of needles."
With that her head snapped up to him, "N-no I meant the kiss! The shot was horrible but the kiss made it better!" The crimson blush on her face growing darker with every passing second. Her admission hanging in the air.
"O-oh." Eddie felt like a complete and utter fool, but hey; she liked the kiss.
"We better get going, its almost been five minutes." She said, looking at the clock hanging on the wall above him.
"Wait, I have something for you."
Reaching into his fanny pack Eddie pulled out a cherry lollipop. He unwrapped it and handed it to his friend, at least she was his friend. He wasn't exactly sure where they stood. She giggled at his face, confusion tainted his features and a red hue still covered his cheeks; he was the same color as her sucker.
If only she knew Eddie was a sucker for her, a hopelessly lovesick sucker.
"Thanks Eds."
