“Truth or Dare Jess?”
I ask, slightly giggling. I had already three cups of alcohol and I could already start feeling it’s affects.
“Dare.”
Jess states confidently, though I could see her eyes saying otherwise.
“I dare you to run up to Mason over there and slap his ass.”
I smirked, Jess had liked Mason in the 9th grade and everyone knew that. Jess glared at me and said,
“Get your glass ready, watch me.”
Jess walked over and whispered something in Mason’s ear and trailed a finger down his arm flirtatiously before wrapping both arms around his waist and slapping his butt. All of us in the circle laughed while I somewhat grumbled as I grabbed the beer and poured its contents into my cup and drank it all in just a few gulps. Jess came back over to us and laughed at me,
“You hammered yet? How many cups have you had?”
I snorted and said,
“Hell no, I’m not hammered. I’ve only had four glasses this evening.”
We both laughed in unison. Ella hadn’t come back from her dare ten minutes ago, though we weren’t worried. She was supposed to kiss Danny but I’m sure that’s not what they’re doing now.
A girl named Bree asked me,
“Kelly, truth or dare?”
I said,
“Um…Dare?”
Bree chuckled at my hesitation and said,
“Ya sure?”
Multiple people laughed and my cheeks went slightly pink and I said,
“Yes, give me a dare already.”
“I dare you to go up to Austin and get his attention. Then after you do, you have to kiss Paul for at least five seconds with him watching.”
I stammered,
“Seriously Bree? What are you trying to do? Make us break up?”
Bree fired back,
“If you don’t do the dare you’re exiled from the next three parties, you know the rules.”
I shot a look at Jess. Jess looked up apologetically and said,
“Sorry Kelly, you choose dare. You either you do it or you don’t.”
I raised my eyebrows and said shocked,
“Jess I’m one of your best friends. Tell them I don’t have to follow the rules.”
I glance back at Bree who is smirking at me triumphantly. I say,
“Tell me why you want me to kiss Paul, Bree.”
Bree’s smirk wavered off her face as she said,
“I don’t have to explain anything, you either do the dare or you don’t. You have thirty seconds to decide.”
I glared and said,
“Fine but I get to tell him I’m doing a dare before.”
Bree chuckled and said,
“I think Kelly needs a little reminder about the rules. First rule anyone?”
“First rule, you do the dare or answer the truth, if you don’t you’re not allowed to come to the next three parties.”
A boy said quickly before shooting me an apologetic look.
Bree asked again,
“Second rule?”
“What happens in the circle stays in the circle. For example you can’t say you’re doing a dare.”
A girl in a pink dress with long black hair, streaked with white said. She shot me a disgusted look like I was some sort of slut. I rolled my eyes are her.
Bree smiled before asking,
“And the third final rule?”
“If the person you asked or dared answers the question or does the dare you have to drink a full glass of an alcoholic beverage.”
Bree smirked at me and said,
“I think you are now fully aware of the rules Kelly. You have fifteen seconds now.”
I look over to Jess who didn’t even look in my direction, she keep her head down and fiddled with her fingers. Some best friend she was being. I felt tears brimming at my eyes and I said,
“Give me five minutes and I’ll do it.”
Bree sighed and said,
“Sure thing, I think we can allow an exception. But you have to do in exactly five minutes, or you know what happens.”
I sighed gratefully and the game continued. My brain was working on over drive and I glanced over to Austin to see him laughing and enjoying himself. I couldn’t possibly break his beautiful heart, only to be replaced by a horrible frown and red, teary eyes. I was a horrible girlfriend. Why would I even do this dare. Oh yeah, because my former best friend doesn’t stick up for like I would’ve for her. This was her party. I heard laughter around me but it was dulled by my painstakingly loud thoughts and I swear I could the clock ticking down. I glanced one last time at Jess, she was laughing, and avoiding any eye contact with me, heck she wasn’t even looking in my direction. She hated doing this but she did what she thought she had to do. Well it didn’t matter because I was going to do what I had to do, to prove her wrong. I gulped down another glass of beer though no amount of alcohol could make me foolish enough to do what I’m about to do.
Bree’s voice interrupted my thoughts,
“Alright, now before we start with Jenny’s dare, we have a special someone who asked for a five minute break. Looks like her time’s up.”
She locked eyes with me and said,
“It’s your turn Kelly.”
