Chapter 9

Slowly I force myself to stand up. My body quakes as I make my way over to Paul and Austin. Poor Austin he has no idea that this is all part of a vicious game between a few drunk, jealous high school girls.   I walk as slowly as I can, everything starts to spin and the floor starts to tilt up. I close my eyes and brace my hands along the wall to steady myself. My mind dances ahead of me and starts to watch play by play what most likely is going to happen.

"Hurry up Kelly," Bree calls maliciously.

I turn my head and glare daggers at her.

When at last I reach Paul, Austin looks up at me and smiles. I pretend as though I'm leaning into kiss him but instead smash my lips against Paul's. In my head I count to five probably quicker then Bree would have liked, but I don't care what she thinks. Paul pushes me away from him.

"What the heck Kelly," Paul wipes his mouth before turning to Austin,"I'm sorry man, she just came onto me,"

I look over at Austin only to find his hurt eyes boring into mine. I look away in humiliation. Austin hesitates a moment before stalking off outside completely humiliated.

I run after him.  "Austin, wait!"

I yell hoping that he'll at least hear me out. He speeds up his pace and doesn't stop until he reaches his car.

I grab onto his arm,"Austin please hear me out,"

I beg sounding pitiful.

He whips his arm out of my grasp and turns around,"Hear you out? How am I supposed to stand here and 'hear you out' when all I can think about is how you just kissed Paul?"

he runs his fingers through his hair and beats his fist against the car door.

"I'm so sorry," I whisper pathetically.

"Sorry, you wouldn't have to be sorry if you hadn't done it!" his voice grows louder.

"Calm down, please," I ask him.

Not listening to my request he says,"Just explain to me why, why on earth would you kiss Paul of all people?"

"It was a dare, it didn't mean anything I swear and if I didn't do it I wouldn't be allowed to come to the next three parties," I start to ramble.

"So you're telling me that you value your party life more than you value our relationship?" Austin spits in my direction with disgust crossing his arms.

"No, I love you, you know that," my bottom lips starts to quiver and a few rebel tears escape.

I wipe them away with my hand.

"Not enough," he swears.

Not bothering to hear my response Austin hops in his car.

"Wait, Austin, please," I put my face close to his cars' open window.

"Kelly I'm sick of your excuses, we're done, it's over," he wipes angrily at his eyes before starting the car.

"You can't mean that," I whine, my throat choking up.

"I do," he clears his throat and backs out leaving me standing there pathetically.

I watch until his car disappears before trudging back up to the house.    Everyone is still sitting there playing truth or dare when I walk in.

Upon seeing my tear stained face Bree says,"I take it that he didn't take it to well?"

I throw myself at her,

"You evil conceited, no good son of a,"

"Kelly!" Jess gasps horrified.

"It's her fault that he broke up with me,"

I point my finger accusingly at Bree.

"I'm not the one who kissed Paul in front of my boyfriend Kelly, you, did,"

Bree cheerfully chirps.

This time I don't hold back anything I slap her across the face leaving a red hand print.

"I think that you need to leave, now,"

Jess orders me.

"What?" I ask bewildered.

  "Leave, now,"

Jess repeats.

Not wanting to be told to leave for a third time I get up and walk out of the house. I reopen my eyes and realize that none of that has happened yet, I can still change my mind. I stand up a little taller and walk as gracefully as I can over to Paul. Paul gives me his winning smile. I return it before tugging on his hand like a small child and asking if we can leave.

"Leave?" he repeats, confused I never leave parties early.

"Yes we need to leave now!"

I urge him, dragging him towards the door.

Jess runs over to me,

"Kelly what are you doing?"

"Leaving," I reply loftily.

  "Why?"

she asks.

"I didn't really do the dare so I'm not allowed to go to the next three parties, I figured out that if I leave now it can count as one,"

Jess gets teary eyed, I'm not sure how she can do that on the spot but somehow she always manages to.

"So you're choosing him over us?"

Jess retorts.

"Im not choosing anyone, and besides you didn't defend me when Bree came up with the dare!"

"So thats what this is about?"

Jess rolls her eyes.

"You're so childish Kelly, grow up a little. If I had shown any sympathy they would have thought I was weak,"

"You aren't a queen," I say right back.

"In my house what I say goes,"

she smirks.

Not daring to even look at her I grab Paul's hand and leave her house. The events swirling through my brain, leaving me wondering if there was any ending that wouldn't have ended in a fight. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
