All three girls turned to look at the door where the noise was coming from. The scraping and tearing noise sounded for a few minutes but seemed like hours; it sounded like somebody dragging their long nails down a chalk board, and it made shivers go up their spines and made them cringe and cover their ears, yet they couldn't get it out of their heads even after the noise stopped.
When they were certain that the noise had stopped at their ears had stopped ringing, they were glued to the couch, to scared to even shiver. Chloe had broken out in cold sweat and was clinging onto Emma. Elisa was the least scared out of the girls, and she bravely got up to investigate, even though she was now shaking and thought that her legs were going to give way.
She slowly creped to the door, being careful not to make a sound and avoiding the floorboards that creaked. Then her trembling hand reached out to the door handle and she turned it extremely slowly, so slow you wouldn't notice it was moving.
Then as if she was trying to suprise whatever was on the other side, she flung open the door, so quickly it caused all the papers in the room to go flying and spin around the room like a tornado. But alas, nothing was there.
She looked down the corridor both ways, but saw nothing.
She had found her courage so she flicked on the lights and proceeded to close of every room after making sure they were empty. This way she would know if something had passed through because the doors had loud hinges that could be heard through most of the house, but not far enough to reach her grandmother's ears, so she wasn't bothered about waking her. When she got to the last room, the furthest to the back of the house, she felt a cold draft that pinched her face and caused her cherry red hair to cover eyes. She lifted it out of her face and saw small muddy footprints on the floor that faded as they left the room. Then she heard a floorboard behind her creak. She didn't dare turn around. It was getting closer. But something wasn't right about how it sounded, it made a light pattering sound, and then something furry brushed against her legs. She screamed at the top of her lungs and didn't dare look down.

Emma and Chloe heard Elisa's screams, but they didn't know what to do, they were now petrified.
"We can't split up anymore, we both have to go help her." Emma whispered.
"B-but how w-will w-we d-defend ourselves." Chloe stammered.
Emma reached into her pocket and pulled out her pocket knife, "I always have it with me, we need to go help her."
