                                                                                         Mike's POV:

"Hey Mike, do you wanna come to the arcade after school," Dustin asked. "Um, no thanks Dustin," I replied. I guess I was being kind of distant for the past week. Well, how would you feel if you'd thought you'd never see your best friend for a year, and then you do? It was selfish of me to ditch the party for El- I mean Jane, but it made me so happy to be around her. They were her friends too, but.... I don't know, it's stupid. "Aw, come on man! You never hang out with us anymore after school!" Lucas gasped. "Did you join another party? How could you! Max can take your spot!" Max shook her head. "No way. Being a paladin is super boring. Zoomer is way cooler." I rolled my eyes. "For the millionth time, zoomer isn't a thing. And no, I promise that I didn't join another party, okay? I'm just... busy." And yet, this answer wasn't good enough. The three of them pestered me until Will stepped in. "Maybe, we should let Mike have his privacy." And they stepped off. No one ever questioned Will. He never talks, but when he does, we follow his every command. "Thanks Will." I took off on foot towards her cabin in the woods. It's about a fifteen minute walk to get there. Once I arrived, I knocked the secret knock that only Hopper and I know. Knock knock...knock...knock knock knock. She opened the door with a smile on her face. Her hair was getting much longer, it was almost shoulder length now. We went inside her room and talked. Jane really understood me- more than the boys and Max. I introduced her to a new board game that I found. It's called Guess Who, and it was just released to the public about a year ago.

All of a sudden, there was a knock at the door. And it wasn't the secret knock. Both of us started to panic. "Papa," she whispered. We pushed the game off the bed and hid under the covers. It was a terrible hiding spot, I know, but a four-hundred square foot cabin in the woods doesn't have the best hiding places. Jane started shaking. "I can't go," she whispered. I grabbed her hand. "Listen to me. They won't take you without killing me." This only made her more scared. "Then they will kill you." The window in her room opened. She stopped shaking. Both of us lay very still, holding our breath. Sure, they'll overlook two person-sized lumps under the bed. For sure. A figure emerged from the curtains, then three more. Jane grasped my hand. One of the figures pulled back the covers. They gasped. "Holy...." I sighed in relief. "Oh my God Dustin! You scared me to death! How did you even get here? How did you find us?" I looked back and realized that Jane was still hiding. "Us? We should be asking you the same questions! That's totally not creepy, hiding in a stranger's bed!" I rolled my eyes. "It's fine Jane. You can come out. It's just four people that like to follow and stalk me." She pulled off the covers to reveal a scared face. It quickly brightened at the sight of them. "El!" Dustin and Lucas practically shrieked. She laughed. "I go by Jane now." Their mouths were agape, and Max was trying not to show her surprise, and Will, well Will just stared. "I thought we weren't going to see you for another year!" Jane caught up on everything with the two of them. How Hopper had adopted her, and how she was much more talkative now that she was permitted to speak. Max tried to talk to her, but she has a thing against Max for some reason. Will just stared at her warily. We must've been talking for at least half an hour. "Well, now we know why you've been distant lately. YOU HAVE A GIRLFRIEND!" I glared at Lucas. "Well, you do too! What's the difference?" Lucas nodded. "Touche, my friend. Touche."

The next day, the four of them decided to give me some privacy. "We'll let you two lovebirds be alone," Dustin chirped. As we went our separate ways, Will confronted me. "I... want to... come with you." I pursed my lips. "Um, alright I guess. But won't your mom not know where you are?" He flashed one of his rare smiles. "Yes." To be honest, I didn't want Will to come with me, but I couldn't refuse, because, well because I just couldn't. While we were walking, he asked, "What do you and Jane do together?" I pondered for a moment. "We play a lot of board games. Chutes and Ladders mostly. She really likes it. And we watch movies. And eat eggos. Lots and lots of eggos." He nodded. Once we arrived, she opened the door with a smiling face. It faltered for a moment after seeing Will, but fixed almost instantly. After offering us both eggos, we went into her room. She pulled out chutes and ladders and looked at me pleadingly. I nodded and looked at Will. "Do you want to play," she asked. He nodded. We started playing. In the middle of the game, Will started yelling. "Stuck! Stuck! Stuck," he shrieked. Our eyes widened after he pushed the game off the bed, pieces scattering all over the floor. "Stuck! STUCK!" Both of us were shocked. He stood up, running all around the cabin, yelling 'stuck'. "Will! How are you stuck? How?" He kept screaming at the top of his lungs until he fell to the ground, unconscious. I dived to catch his head before it hit the floor and cracked open. Together, we carried him and lay him on the bed. We sat there, not knowing what to do. Finally, I asked, "Do you think that you can find him? And talk to him? In his mind?" Thinking hard, she nodded. I took her super com and messaged the whole party. "Guys, we have a code red."
