Kassie's POV"So...Where are we going?" I asked after a while of silent driving. Wolfie shrugged.
"Well, we have to be going somewhere. We can't just keep driving around in circles and eating up my gasoline." I sighed, yawning.
"We're not eating your gasoline. That would be gross, and it would probably kill us." He retorted.
"We're wasting my gasoline." I corrected myself, rolling my eyes at his literal remark.
"It's not your gasoline. It's the car's." He stated.
"Oh my God, I swear I will..." I began, the corner of my lips tugging into a smile.
"I'd like to see yours sometime, though." He murmured once we'd stopped at a red light.
I felt my cheeks turn light rosy red, and I shifted uncomfortably in my seat.
I couldn't find the strength to say anything. It was like his words made all of it vanish.
He looked at me and smirked. "Relax, baby. I'm joking."
I felt myself slowly returning to my normal state.
"We should grab something to eat." He said after a while, and I agreed, glad we were going to stop driving around in circles.
We drove in silence until we reached another stoplight.
"Feels good to cut class now, huh?" He asked, and I nodded slowly.
I was too tired today to concentrate on anything, anyway.
"It's not my first time." I spoked, my voice barely a whisper.
"Oh, really?" Wolfie asked.
"Yes."
"Well, then enlighten me with the story." He said.
I looked at him, but he was staring casually at the cars in front.
"After my parents... I had gone too far with, you know, my depression. I didn't care whether I lived or died afterwards. No matter what the therapist told me...and what all those people in the foster home said...I would try to...It didn't really make a difference..." I explained, hesitating.
"So you skipped school those few days?" He asked.
"I-I dropped out. I didn't go for a month until Jarett came and forced me to. He was a good friend of my parents', so... He felt sorry." I choked, trying to ignore the urge to cry.
The green light came back on, and Wolfie began driving again.
"He doesn't love you." He guessed cautiously, clearly trying not to upset me. It was okay, though. I knew it was true.
"I have Tuvi, though. Besides, at least he was kind enough to give me a roof to live under and food to eat." I mumbled.
"You don't deserve the bad things that happened to you." He muttered.
"Nobody deserves bad things, but without them, how would we be grateful for the good things?" I sighed.
"That makes sense." He replied, parking my car near some fast food places.
I unbuckled my seatbelt and got out. Doing the same, Wolfie locked the car and helped me up onto the elevated concrete.
"Let's get pizza!" I suggested, opening the door to Cheesy Pizza.
He nodded and went inside as well.
"I'm not going to eat."
I frowned. "I thought you were hungry."
"Oh, I'm famished. But I'm not eating pizza." He answered.
"Why?" I asked as we got in line.
"I don't want to."
I eyed him suspiciously, and he smirked. "What? Scared to date a guy that doesn't like pizza?"
I blinked at his comment. He chuckled before saying, "Whatever. Just get your slice so we can leave."
"No. Let's just get burgers from next door or something." I responded, leaving the line with him following me outside.
"I mean, I thought we had our bits of differences, but your disgust towards pizza changes everything." I teased, laughing.
"Yeah? You'd be surprised at all the frozen pizzas I had to eat as a little kid when my parents forgot to feed me." He told me, his tone simple. He had a playful smile on his face, and I looked at him, raising my eyebrows.
How the heck can he smile about that?
"I wasn't hungry for pizza that much anyways, you know." I shrugged as we got ready to order.
The cashier scanned me with his eyes from head to toe before smiling kindly at me. "May I take your number-I mean, your order?"
Wolfie glared at him and kissed me suddenly. The cashier looked at us in surprise - honestly, I'm just as surprised as he was.
"One veggie burger." I said quietly, still feeling the effects of the sudden, rough kiss. The cashier nodded and kept looking at my chest. I cleared my throat awkwardly. "Don't you have a burger to get?" Wolfie growled.
The guy snapped out of it and left.
"Why did you-" I began, but Wolfie interrupted me. "I don't want some idiot flirting with my girl."
The way he referred to me made my heart beat so quickly I thought it would burst.
My girl.
I bit my lip just as the man came back. He handed me the burger and we left the line after paying.
"Your order!" I exclaimed just as I remembered that Wolfie didn't order.
"I'm not going to order something from that guy." He replied, annoyed.
"Oh...Okay. Do you want some of mine?" I asked.
"No, let's just - Wait, you're a vegan?" He frowned, looking at the veggie burger.
I nodded in response. "I don't want to eat animals."
"Wait, you've never tasted meat?" He asked disbelievingly, stopping me.
"No, and I don't want to." I sighed.
"Yeah, but it doesn't really matter. The animal is already dead, so you might as well eat it." He said as we went inside and I unwrapped the burger.
"I just don't want to." I shrugged. "Why do they have to die if they're just trying to live like we are?"
Wolfie remained quiet before starting the car. "Eat it now. We're going somewhere you won't be able to."
I looked at him in confusion, but I did as told.
"Are you sure you don't want?" I asked.
He shrugged. "I don't care."
I didn't know whether that was a yes or a no, so I divided the burger in half and gave one part to him.
We ate it casually while listening to music.
"Where are we going?" I spoke after a while.
"I'm going to show you something. Believe me, if you think animals are being treated unfairly, that's nothing compared to this." He told me.
I nodded. My heart beating faster than ever, we let our hands intertwine. I think I know where we're going.~~~
We parked in back of a house. Wolfie sighed. "Let's go."
We got out of the car and walked over to the fence.
"Wait here." He insisted. "No. I want to go." I said. "Kassie, you can't - Okay. Fine." He exhaled sharply before holding on to the fence.
He began climbing it and looked back at me once he realized I was completely and utterly confused.
"Aren't you coming?"
"Oh..I don't know how to climb fences." I said shyly.
"It's easy. Just watch what I'm doing and then I'll help you get down, okay?" He told me. I still had no clue why we were climbing a fence when the house had a nice front door, but I went along with it.
I mimicked his movements and made it so I was sitting down at the top of the wooden fence.
He jumped down to the floor and waited for me.
I looked down and realized it seemed unsafe.
"Jump," he said, "I'll carry you."
I carefully did as told and landed safely in his arms.
"Why are we-" I began, but he grabbed my hand and pulled me inside a tool shed quickly.
I glanced around, unsure of everything that was going on.
"I need to get something inside my house. Don't move an inch from here." He ordered. I nodded right before he left and closed the door.Wolfie's POV
I opened the door to my house, hoping Kassie would stay right where she was to avoid any trouble.
Now I had to get a little bit of money I had hidden in my room and some cigarettes as fast as possible to get Kassie out of this place.
I began to walk upstairs to my room when I heard some footsteps behind me and someone clearing their throat.
I turned around to find my mother at the bottom of the stairs. Shit..."Aren't you supposed to be at school, son?"
