"Mom? Dad? Can we get a house in Wiltshire?" Kylee asked her parents once they were at a small cafe in Allington, Chippenham.
"Why Wiltshire? There are so many nice towns in the area, why that specific town?" Kira asked, raising a curious eyebrow.
"Umm...my friend -Alli, you know her from when we lived in California- went there on vacation and said it was her favourite part of the trip. I figured it would be nice." Kylee fibbed, not meeting her Mom's eye.
"Okay, we'll check it out, ange." Mark leaned over and kissed Kylee's forehead, using the pet name he'd given to her when she was just three years old.
They ended up renting a small house in Downton, Wiltshire until they had enough money to buy their own house. Kylee was ecstatic at the possibility of living near Draco. She didn't know him long, but she had a feeling they would be friends for a while. Mark bought a car with the money from their old one and they drove to the house. It was smaller than Kylee was used to, but she tried to remind herself that she should be thankful that her Dad wasn't in jail. Plus, it's only temporary until they can save enough money to buy their own.
Kylee brought her suitcase up to her new room (she chose the one furthest down the hall, which also happened to be the biggest room aside from the master bedroom) and flopped onto the bed, pulling out her phone to see if she could find Draco on Instagram. For some reason, the more she said his name, the more she felt like she'd heard it somewhere, but she was sure it was just her imagination.
Kylee took out her phone and pressed the home button, but nothing happened. Maybe it was dead, she thought, pulling the charger from her bag. She plugged it in and waited, trying again once she believed was long enough for it to charge at least 5%. Still nothing. Kylee tried holding down the home button, the power button, the home and power button together, to no avail. Frustrated, Kylee unplugged her phone and plugged it in again, thinking maybe the charger wasn't in all the way. Kylee yelped and dropped the iPhone, it zapped her. She stared down at the device, which was now sparking. Rushing to the bathroom and filling a cup with water, she poured it over the phone, watching it sizzle and smoke. Well, there goes $700 down the toilet.
Clunk.
Clunk.
Clunk.
Kylee looked up from the remains of her precious cell to glare at the window. What is it, now?
Clunk.
Clunk.
Was someone throwing rocks at her window? Kylee stormed over to the pane and swung it open. Instead of finding some moron throwing pebbles at her room, Kylee found a beautiful, sleek black owl. It was a Sooty Owl, Kylee knew from a stupid bird project she did in fourth grade.
"Hello, what are you doing here?" She cooed, smoothing down a few ruffled feathers on its back. To Kylee's surprise, it didn't nip her fingers, instead, it held out its foot. She looked down and untied the envelope. Still petting the owl, she ripped open the envelope and read what was inside.
Kylee,
Do not ask me how I found you, I don't really know myself. I just asked Esme to fly to the most recent house bought. I don't know how she knows these things, she just does I guess. It's amazing. Anyway, if your reading this and your name is Kylee, give Esme a treat for me, would you? If not, please reattach the letter and send her off.
As for your return letter (assuming that you will write one), I live in Malfoy Manor, Wiltshire. But Esme knows the way.
Just tie it to her leg and toss her out the window.
Your Friend,
Draco Malfoy
Kylee supposed she should be at least a little bit suspicious or cautious, but as she'd said before, she trusted Draco. So, she found a piece of paper and a pen and started writing.
Draco,
I can't believe you found me so fast, lol. Esme is so beautiful where'd you get her? I guess having an owl as a pet does come in handy if you don't have a phone or whatever. Or maybe rich people don't think iPhones are fancy enough? I wouldn't know. We rented this house in Downton but once my parents have stable jobs and enough money, we're going to buy our own house.
Malfoy Manor, huh? I'm guessing you're pretty loaded, so you'd probably never have that problem. Not that I'm judging or anything, just a bit envious. Maybe we can meet up sometime?
Your Friend,
Kylee Thompson
Kylee folded the paper in half and tied it to Esme's leg, not bothering to look for an envelope. She hoped to see Draco again some day. She liked him.

Kylee and Draco exchanged letter for weeks and they were constantly having to explain things to each other, having grown up in two different worlds (Draco asked what 'lol' meant and what an 'iPhone' was. Kylee just said 'Laugh Out Loud' and 'nevermind'). Draco was a rich British boy and Kylee was an average American girl. And then one day, Kylee received the weirdest letter from Draco yet.
Kylee,
A few of weeks from now, Mother is taking me to Diagon Alley. A good thing, too -I really need new robes, they're already above my ankle! Maybe I'll see you there?
Draco Malfoy
To which, Kylee responded simply with
Draco,
What the hell is 'Diagon Alley'?
Kylee Thomspon
Kylee sent that almost two weeks ago and Draco had yet to reply. She knew she shouldn't be worried, he was probably just busy, but she couldn't help but feel like he was ignoring her. Which was too bad, because Kylee really didn't want him to ignore her -he was her only friend outside her family.
