veronica;
"Mommmyyyyy...I don't wanna do it!"
"Veronica, mija, you have to. Come on. We'll do it together, okay?"
I pouted at Mommy. "But--I'm scared." She smiled knowingly.
"How about I'll take you to Toys R' Us after school, as a celebration of your first day? Would you like that?" I immediatly smiled, my cheeks rosy like apples.
"Yeah!" I took my mom's hand and marched inside the school. I was ready to conquer my first day of school, in Room--
"Excuse me, what room am I in? My name's Veronica. Lodge." I poked my head over the tabletop, in the principal's office. The lady looked at me like a hawk would look at a mouse. "F-13. Now shoo." I quickly shuffled out of the office, and into the halls.
"Mija, I have to go now. Look, I know you're sad that I'm leaving, but I want you to know that I--"
"Okay, bye Mommy!" I giggled. Skipping down the large hallway of Primrose Elementary, I thought, and firmly believed, that nothing could go wrong.
When I finally entered the room, there was a severe-looking woman standing in the front.
I walked up to her and held out a small, chubby hand. "Hi, my name is Veronica Lodge, and I'm excited to be your stud--"
"Where is your school uniform? And you're 2 minutes late. We don't take kindly to that kind of punctuality here, young lady." Blushing, I was in the middle of apologizing when--
A brown haired boy with dark, curly hair that stood up ran in. He had light freckles on his cheeks, and when he smiled, dimples were openly visible. "Sorry I'm late, Ms. Sweet. I got...held up." His gaze shifted to me.
You know those scenes in kids movies, when the girl sees the boy for the first time, and there's a moment where everything is in slow motion, and the girl looks like she was dumped with ice-cold water, and visible hearts are popping around her head, and Frank Sinatra's playing in the background?
Well, that was kind of what described that moment for me. He was so--
I had to talk to him. "Um, hello, uh. My name is Ver--" He looked at me like he just saw a ghost. Then he yelled.
"EWWWW, a GIRL'S talking to me! Who even ARE you?" He started laughing meanly, and soon, the whole class (mainly boys) started laughing at me. "Ha-ha, Cootie Girl!"
My eyes welled up with tears, and I rushed to the farthest seat. Putting my backpack in front of me so to hide my face, I started whimpering, which eventually turned to sobs. It's only the first day, I thought, And I'm already Cootie Girl? Everyone kept laughing, and I kept crying into my brand new white dress, which was thoroughly tear stained by now.
Suddenly, I felt this burning hate inside of me. And then, I couldn't take it anymore. Knocking my backpack onto the floor, I yelled, "SHUT UP, you MONKEYS!"
Everyone turned to look at me, including the boy, who was identified as Nick St. Clair by the teacher, and the room fell silent. The teacher strode to the back of the room, and leaned on the desk which I sat at.
She leaned in close, and whispered in my ear, "Ms. Veronica Lodge, you may be new here, but that does NOT mean you have priviliges that others don't. Since it is your first day here, I will let you off with a warning, but next time I hear that kind of language here, there WILL be consequences."
She sashayed back to the front of the room, and at that moment, I wondered why her name was "Ms. Sweet".
For the whole of the day, I saw everyone catching glimpses at me, especially Nick, who smirked whenever he saw me look at him. I just hissed at him, and focused back at the teacher.
But in the way those kids looked at me, both the girls and the boys, I saw not hate and amusement, but...respect. Maybe at the end of year, Cootie Girl would change to The Girl. Turns out this day was looking up after all.
Finally, when the rusty bell rang, and everyone bolted out, one girl lingered. She shuffled over to my desk, and she held out a hand. I looked up, and raised an eyebrow. "Who are you? Come to get a sample of Cootie Girl?"
The girl laughed, and her golden brown hair shimmered. "Um. No. Actually, I'm here to tell you that my name is Kate Ashton, and I wanted to know if you wanna be friends."
I got up. We were now eye-level, and I thrust my hand into hers. "Fine. My name's Veronica Lodge, but since we're friends, you can find some random nickname to call me. Though I'm telling you, "Veronica" isn't really a nicknamey name."
She wrinkled her nose for a second, and then she yelped. "Got it! I'll call you...Roni! How 'bout it?" I laughed. "Roni...I like it."
Then her smile drifted away. "I'm sorry about what Nick did to you. That was rude." I nodded. A devilish grin gradually creeped onto her face. "Hey, you want revenge?"
I hesistated. "But, um, Kate, isn't that a little...much?" She cocked her head.
"Do you REALLY want to go through another day of being Cootie Girl?"
I bit my lip. "No...fine, what do you have in mind?" She chuckled, " Oh Roni, you don't even know." She linked my arm into hers.
the next day...
We had made a club. It didn't last long, actually, but our mindset did.
It was the Boys Club. But when the teacher came, it was the Boise Club. Don't ask. The club was centered around the idea that boys, well, should be exterminated.
The day after, we just gave up, because of science. It was scientifically impossible to exterminate an entire gender in one school year.
Go to hell, Science.
Anyways, from that day with Nick onwards, I had only one life lesson for myself.
NEVER go after a boy, even if he's so...
Ah, how ironic.
This was really fun to write, and I hope you guys think so too! Sorry for not updating in a long time, I had a lot of exams cri. But I promise I'll write as much as I can during the break!
