Veronica

New York, New York, it's a hell of a town.

And I actually missed it. When I was finally off that stuffy plane, I felt the cool breeze across my face.

My New York

And when I saw my old friends again, it made it all the more better. High school was good. I felt as if home was finally in view. I even missed Nick.

And of course...I got a boyfriend. Josh Willis.

He was-sweet. Brown curls, blue eyes, warm touch. I couldn't deny that it was really fast.

But every time he kissed me, he touched my shoulders, he ran his warm hands through my hair, I didn't get a tingle. A spark

Until that day Archie called him. I could hear him and see him, even if we were only talking.

I could see him running his hands through his soft hair, his brown eyes focused on the phone, and his cookie-cutter smile.

His deep laugh, and how he could probably see right through me. That's why I checked the mail everyday, just waiting for a letter, or a package, or something.

Until one day. Daddy told me to bring the mail in, and I was already pretty hopeless about the package.

I was looking through the mail, sorting through the bills and the advertisements and the magazines, when I saw something wrapped in velvety paper.

It was small, and when I rushed to the kitchen to open it, with trembling hands, I saw a note on it.

See you soon.

x A

I smiled a little, just thinking of Archie.

Tearing open the package, I found seven phonograph discs. Strange.

There was a little label on it, which said: Some Things I Learnt About Love

A lump in my throat, like the ones that hurt. "DADDY!"

"Veronica? Why are you up?" My dad came into the kitchen, in his work clothes.

"Um, nothing, but..." I pushed the package behind me. "Do we have a Gramophone?"

He turned away, but I could see a wistful gaze on his face. "I think we do...somewhere in one of those cupboards," He absentmindedly pointed to a group of cupboards in the corner.

"You know, Hermione and I used to dance to those records. They-bring back old memories." He walked out of the room, clearly confused, sad, nostalgic, all at once.

With a beating heart, I put the disc onto the gramophone and placing the needle on top, waited as it spun a few times.

Then a voice.

"Veronica, uh, hi. It's-it's Archie. I just wanted to say, if you're hearing this right now, I'm doing my job. Yeah!" He laughed his deep, hearty laugh.

I smiled, feeling that lump form again. "So, before you listen to this, I just wanted to tell you that I still love you. I want you to come back home. And I think-I think you and I were meant--" His voice cracked. "--meant to be together. So, I miss you. And I have a feeling you miss me too. Riverdale's really empty without you. I mean, there's Betty, but I want the girl who I fell in love with the first time I saw her back home. So, Veronica Lodge, this is for you and only you."

I was about to walk away, when he cleared his throat.

"Also, don't forget to cry! I'll call you later."

I took off the disc, and placed the one marked 'ONE' on the platform.

And I listened.

But I didn't cry.

Until the very last song.
