Silenced

chapter 7

Annabelle POV:

​About twenty minutes after the gash was cut, I began to cough up spurts of blood as I struggled to get a steady flow of air to my lungs. The blood was getting thicker in my throat, gagging me with the way it coated all around my mouth. As my breathing continued to slow, it became harder to find the strength to contract my muscles enough to force the overpowering blood out.

​Damon still sat across with a sickening smile on his aging face, not moving further of closer than the two feet he sat away from me enjoying my suffering. I begged my head to turn away yet the pain in my throat was too intense; I did not want this man to be that last thing I saw before I inevitably died.

​ Slowly, my ears recognized the small crunching noise of the dry autumn leaves as they rolled under the tires of a car. I made no change of emotion, I couldn't afford to alert Damon of my hope that this may be a rescuer. I stared straight into his eyes, which stared back at me with no change which showed me he had not heard the faint sound. Five minutes later there was no change; ten minutes later I was still in the same predicament with my impending death. Immediately, as I thought the noise had been a whole hallucination form the start, the door behind Damon burst open nearly braking off the hinges. Before I could recognize who had entered the cabin a gunshot was fired, deafening me for a few moments.

When I finally garnered courage to open my eyes once again, I found my brother Jack standing over the dead body of Damon Drake. Jacks eyes widened at the look of my neck wound and the slow rate of my breathing, he quickly began to untie the wrist and stomach bindings although I had become numb to those injuries. Ignoring the blood that coated me, he reached out and embraced my frail, battered body.
