IT HAS BEEN a day since Jennie started living at the Lee's residences. It was surprisingly calm, and she was able to adjust quicker than she had anticipated.
Furthermore, she was ecstatic to find out that she's able to do things that she had always wanted to do for herself. Cook for herself, pick an outfit for herself, and walk by Mrs. Lee's beautiful garden by herself.
She felt like a normal person.
And it has been years since she felt that way. Back at home, everything was done for her. And she always gets agitated whenever they treat her like an unfortunate, sick person.
The maids still had to clean up after her though. Jennie is clueless when it comes to washing dishes and washing clothes, she was guilty for being used to the enviroment back at home. But, she's glad she was able to learn how to cook from the best cook in the mansion.
It's the middle of the night and she was reading a classic. It was Anne of Green Gables. Jennie had, somehow, saw her old self in the gullible redhead. Like Anne, she used to be so fueled with passion and bravery.
But thing's have changed.
Much to her dismay, her peaceful reading was interrupted when she heard a knock from her door. She closed the book and just as she was about to get off her feet, the door swung open.
It revealed Taeyong in pajamas, holding a tray of cookies and a glass milk. Jennie was surprised— more on shocked, to put it in an honest way. She blinked her eyes like a dear in headlights, to make sure what she was witnessing is real.
Taeyong was avoiding eye contact. He gently placed the bedtray down in front of her, and scratched the back of his head.
"Mom told me to take care of you while she's at work," he informs, sheepishly. "I baked those. Don't worry, though. I didn't put poison or any hint of nuts. You're allergic, right?"
She quietly processed the current situation in mind, simultaneously hoping that she did not crafted an illusion to make herself feel better.
Jennie just stared at the young lad. Wanting to talk to him about it, she wasn't sure if she was emotionally ready for it, or if Taeyong was not emotionally ready for it. "At least say something.." Taeyong said softly, Jennie tilted her head and noticed that Taeyong still has the habit of gulping when he feels awkward. "That was all I ever wanted."
Her heart plummeted. I wish I could, Taeyong.
When Taeyong got no response, he gave up. "You know what? Nevermind. Good night." He started to walk away and when Jennie realized that, she immediately stood up and caught on to Taeyong.
She grabbed his hand, tightly and looked up at the man who looked down on her. Taeyong could read her eyes, she wanted to say something but he didn't know why she can't.. She just can't. Somehow, he had expected her to say something, instead, he received something more.
A warm hug from a long lost friend.
No, she wasn't literally lost. But, he did lose her.
Jennie felt sorry for her childhood friend. She couldn't talk.
When she closed her eyes, she felt terrified during their unexpected skinship, she hugged him tight. When Taeyong was just about to wrap his arms around her, Jennie suddenly remembered.. Remembered what had broke her into a million pieces. She fluttered her eyes open and pushed him away and turned her back away from the confused latter.
