Chapter Eight - The Hospital

Everything somehow spun around in my head and I saw a blurry Jake tumbling towards me. "Hey! Hey Alissa what's wrong?!" And then it all went black...

At first, I was scared. I could see myself on a hospital bed and I tried and tried to wake up but I couldn't. Then there was a man who came in. "I'm afraid she has fainted and will be treated immediately. Do you know how this caused?" Then I realised Jake was in the room too.

"W-W-Well... I bought her a car and a ring..." Jake stammered. The room was full of silence. Until the man slammed his clip board on the table and stared writing a few notes. "But... How did she faint?" Jake said again; this time with more confidence.

"Well, it must have to do something with the heart. She was shocked, was she? See, that causes fainting, because she's surprised." I heard the squeak of a chair as the man sat down.

"But... I'm afraid she's got a concussion and a few stitches. And she's hurt her spine so by the time she is able to go out of the hospital, she will be in a wheelchair." I felt myself gulp and Jake started sobbing.

"But- What about everything? Our relationship! When will she be out of the hospital?" Jake stood up.

"A solid five weeks- maybe six. But anyways, you should try talk to her. She's unconscious but she may still be able to hear you." The man left and slammed the door behind him.

I heard whispers reverberating in the room. "Oh Alissa. Can you hear me? I love you..." He kissed me gently on the cheek.

It was at this point, I had realised how precious our relationship was. What if I lost everything? What if I couldn't be healed? I tried to imagine Jake's eyes in my head. I tried to jump out of the box I was in. I was floating; and my whole body was pale and I floated up to Jake.

"Jake..." I whispered to him. He shuddered and widened his eyes. I said back to him.

"I love you too..."
