Chapter 1- Summer plans

School was almost over. Summer was just around the corner. After achieving all her goals about this school year and making her parents proud, Lexi had no idea what to do with her life.

On Monday, at seven in the morning, she woke up and got ready for the last school week. Not putting to much effort on her appearance, she made her way downstairs and made herself a cup of coffee. She left the house carrying a light backpack, since she didn't need many books. The ten minute walk to school was quite refreshing. Her friends, Amy and Bianca were already there when she arrived.

"Hello girls."

"Good morning Lexi."

"Where's Kyle?" she asked.

"He's helping Emmanuel get to class."

"He's here? I thought he wasn't coming this week."

"He said it is too boring staying alone at home. He misses us."

"Aw! I miss him too."
Emmanuel broke his leg on Thursday and he wasn't supposed to come to school this week.

"I'm back!" Emmanuel entered the classroom, hanging onto Kyle's neck. The girls rushed towards him and hugged him tightly. They almost fell on the ground.

"Guys you're killing me. I carried him all the way here and I don't think I can hold the three of you as well."

"Okay Kyle, stop complaining."
Lexi helped him put Emmanuel on his seat then gave him a hug as well.
Seconds later the teacher arrived and they all took their seats.

Emmanuel's father was waiting for him at the end of the school day. After helping him get to his car, Lexi and Kyle made their way home. Kyle's house is further that Lexi's but they have to walk the same way.

"Do you want to come in? Nobody's here so you can show me your new song."

"I have nothing better to do."
As he got his guitar out of its case, Lexi served him some cake.

"Eat it first then sing."

"This is delicious. How can you make such amazing deserts?"

"Remember my aunt, the one that visited us in October?"

"The cool one? Of course I remember her."

"Well she taught me everything I know."

"Is she coming here this summer?"

"No she can't leave in summer. Her house is close to the beach and everybody loves her ice cream shop."

After finishing his cake, Kyle sang his new song.

"It's amazing Kyle...Your voice is so...Wow!"

He just laughed. She has the same reaction every time he sings something.

"How can you sing so well and play the guitar at the same time? I envy you."

"A lot of people can do it. It's not that hard. You have no reason to be envious."

"You have TALENT! I don't... There's nothing I'm good at."

"You're a straight A student. Shut up."

"That requires intelligence, not talent. When I feel sad, stuffing my face into a textbook won't make me feel better. You can sing, Emmanuel can paint, Amy can design clothes and Bianca can swim. I can't do anything."

Kyle thought about it for a moment.
"You can bake!"

"Everyone can if they use a recipe. That doesn't count."

"Well maybe you just haven't found it yet."

"Maybe..."

After a moment of silence, Kyle glanced at her face. He sensed a hint of sadness, so he decided to talk about a subject everybody loves: summer.

"So what are you doing this summer?"

"I'm going to lock myself in my room and watch series. When I'm feeling down I'll call you and you'll sing me a song. Preferably yours! When Amy's boyfriend goes out of town, which will happen twice all summer, I'll visit her. Bianca's village house by the lake doesn't have service so I can't talk to her. I'll only see her when I visit her. That means once. And who knows where Emmanuel will go. He doesn't have time to talk to us when he's traveling the world."

"Wow that sounds exciting," he joked.
She glared at him and he laughed.

"It's not like my summer is gonna that great either," he said.

"You're visiting your uncle in London, your favorite city. All your favorite cousins are gonna be there. You're gonna write songs, sing, play the guitar and do all your other favorite things. Your summer is gonna be amazing."

"Okay fine. But yours can be great too."

"Yeah, how's that gonna happen?"

"If your cool aunt. can't come here, why don't you go there? It's close to the beach and you love water. She has an ice cream shop and you can help her when you get bored. You can also make friends. I'm not saying BFF's. Just people you feel good having around. Everyone is more lightened up in summer, and so will you be. It can be fun. No, it will be fun!"

"You might be right. I'll talk to my parents about it."

"Great. I have to go now."

He stood up and grabbed his things. Lexi walked him to the door and hugged him.

"Bye Kyle."

"Bye Lexi."

Lexi thought about what he said until her parents got back from work. After dinner they all say outside, in the garden, drinking tea and Lexi told them about Kyle's idea.
