Since James and Lexi's parents were all leaving on Monday, the whole family spent the weekend together. They spent most of their time at the beach. They played volleyball and football. Zach and Emily joined them too once in a while. Lexi's parents were so impressed by Zach. Her father was secretly wishing Zach would date Lexi. If he and Adelaide would bring their strength together they might just make it happen. Too bad they didn't have more time. Whenever they played a game, he and Adelaide made sure Zach and Lexi were on the same team.
Although Zach and Lexi didn't get time alone AT ALL, they did have a lot of fun together. Zach got to know her better through the stories her parents shared, some of which were quite embarrassing for Lexi. Zach liked all of the stories. At the end of the day, he felt like he had known Lexi for longer than he actually has.
On Monday morning, everybody at Adelaide's house woke up early. They had breakfast and drove to the airport. James' flight was at 9am. After saying goodbye to James, they drove to the bus station. Lexi's parents' bus left at 11am.
When Lexi and Adelaide returned home, they sensed the emptiness of the house. Fortunately Adelaide had to go to work. She asked Lexi to come along but she already had plans for today.
After Adelaide left, Lexi got ready and left the house. She wanted to pay Zach a surprise visit.
She rang the doorbell three times. Finally, a sleepy shirtless Zach opened the door. His hair messy, a lazy smile grazing his lips, his eyes half-opened and his sweatpants hanging dangerously low. The view caught Lexi's breath.
"Hello cupcake. What a nice surprise."
"Hello Zach. Did I wake you?"
"Yeah, don't worry about it."
"Oh I'm not. I wish I would've come earlier. Who freaking sleeps until noon?"
"Someone who went to bed at 4am."
"Why did you stay up so late?"
"I went to a club with Ben and some other friends."
"So that's why you didn't come by last night."
"Yeah, we went to this new club. It was great. We had a lot of fun."
"Yeah I can tell by your current state."
Zach laughed. "I might've had a lot to drink, yes. It's because I had so much to think about and I couldn't line up my thoughts."
"And drinking helped you do that?"
"No. It made me forget everything, helped me escape. Whatever cupcake can we talk about something else? Or not talk at all."
Zach wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her close. Just as he was about to kiss her she pushed him away.
"Nope, we're not gonna do that."
"What? Come on cupcake... it's been so long since-"
"No, Zach. Go get dressed."
"Why? Don't you like the view anymore?" Zach pouted.
Lexi laughed. "No, stupid, I wanna send you somewhere."
Zach's jaw dropped. "What?"
"Are you deaf or something?"
"No...it's just... you've never sent me anywhere before."
"It's because I didn't know any good places. I don't live here remember?"
"Right. Okay I'll go get dressed. I'll be down in five."
