Chapter 1

Noah sat down at the lunch table with his back hunched as he placed his elbows on his knees, "How about..." His modulated voice made my heart beat just a little bit faster than usual. "Natalie?" His scanning forest green eyes stopped at the girl with dark orange hair and small freckles splattered across her small nose.

"No, I heard that she is extremely clingy." Mike chimed in as he sat down with his lunch tray in front of him, his orotund voice made the group of kids across from us look back for a moment. "Rachel is pretty hot though." He added as he nodded his head towards the tall, pretty, model type girl refilling her drink.

I looked over to the girl and rolled my eyes, quickly looking back to Mike who was stuffing his face with the cheeseburger that had cheese and pickles mounted. "Neither of you bimbos would be able to land a girl like her," I laughed and they both gave me a slight glare as I took two fries and stuffed them in my mouth. "Not trying to offend. But she only goes for older college guys and well... you two are still in high school."

"Last year," Noah pointed and I shrugged my shoulders.

"It doesn't matter. When you guys head off to college she'll be into even older guys and never fall for you. Sorry." I said and Noah just looked back at the girls and Mike nodded his head and began to eat again.

"Why do girls like older guys?" Noah suddenly asked even though the conversation ended three minutes ago. They both looked back to me and I shrugged my shoulder,

"How am I supposed to know?" I asked my voice raising.

"Don't act dumb, Dani." Mike said with a small smirk playing on his small pink lips. "You know you are still madly in love with Tom." His joking manner made me glare at him.

"First, fuck you." I said and Mike laughed, "Second, that was like- two years ago!" I argued but Noah just rolled his eyes and Mike nodded his head, not believing me. I rolled my eyes at the two and cleared my throat. "Plus, they are more mature. Hopefully you guys will get there soon..."

Noah laughed and shook his head, "No, I'm probably going to be 30 and still eating Kraft's Mac and Cheese at my parents." He said truthfully and it was scary how I could imagine that actually happening. "And I don't know, getting older seems like a trap-"

"I agree with you, Noah." Mike said as he pushed his tray aside and got into the conversation. "Getting older is a trap; living is a trap..."

Oh great, Mikey and his conspiracy theory.

"Listen, we grow up and then forced to learn basic shit yeah? And again, forced to attend this hell hole called school which would rather teach us about our cells instead of taxes- I mean in all seriousness, I don't know how to do taxes..." He said, getting off topic a little. Mike quickly clearing his mind from that for now and going on, "Okay, then we are forced- not really but it's kind of forced since we need it for jobs. But, we have to attend college which causes about a shit load of people to become in debt even before they get a job-"

"Mike, you have to think about this though..." I said, cutting him off. I was starting to getting confused.

"Nope," Mike shaking his head before opening his drink and chugging it down goes, "We live half our lives miserable and then we die, end of story."

"My life isn't miserable. Not yet." Noah chimes in as he keeps his eyes on the people in the cafeteria. I'm not even sure who he's trying to find and why.

"Of course it's not, Mr. Perfect." I said, using his nickname he got during the seventh grade.

"You have everything you need, Noah..." Mike said as he got up on the table like Noah and laid back on it staring at the broken white tiles. "My life wouldn't be miserable if my father was a CEO of a multimillionaire corporation-"
