~August 1997~
"Oooh, girl I cannot wait until school starts because we are gonna be lookin off the chain!" Aaliyah said to her baby sister, Janeé as they sat in her room talking about the end of their summer vacation. It was Aaliyah's senior year at South East High School and she couldn't wait to start her very last year of school.
"Man I cant wait, either! We have to go school shopping!"
"I've waited so long for senior year and it's finally here!" Aaliyah said in excitement.
"I wish I was a senior already," said Janeé.
"Don't worry, your time is coming."
Just then, the girls' brother, Steven, whom they call Layzie, walks in their room.
"What y'all niggas in here doing?" he asked.
"Nothing," the girls said in unison.
"I need to go and look good for my future man," Janeé said.
"Who, Bryon?" Aaliyah joked.
"Aww hell naw!"
"Well, you go on and do that, I'm bouta head out. Pops gave me the car, see ya!" Layzie said as he turned around and prepared to walk out but Liyah stopped him.
"Lay, wait!" He turned around. "Ummm, can you take us shopping?"
"Awww hell naw, me and Kray bouta hit up the court, so that's out of the question! Why you don't ask Flesh to take you?"
"He ain't even here, besides, I don't know where that nigga went!"
Just then, their little cousin Trinity walks in the room.
"Hey Tink, what brings you here?" asked Janeé.
"My mama dropped me off. What y'all doin?"
"We tryna get Lay to take us shopping," said Aaliyah.
"Yeah and I told y'all niggas no already," Lay replied.
"If Lauren asked, you would have done it!"
"I would have told her the same thing, especially if I had something else I needed to do."
"Man come on, nigga, just take us shopping!" Janeé snapped.
"Pleaseeeeee?" Trinity asked with puppy dog eyes. Layzie groaned and finally gave up.
"Aight, aight, damn, if it'll get y'all to shut the hell up, but hold up, if we going to the mall, I gotta change first," he said as he walked out of the room.
"Yeah you do that, but I need to go get some money," Janeé said.
"Don't worry, boo, let me handle this one," Aaliyah responded.
"Y'all niggas better be ready in 45 minutes," Layzie called out from in the hallway.
"Aye, you know what, I'll hit up moms, you hit up pops," Janeé said to Aaliyah.
"Bet!"
As Janeé went to talk to their mom, Aaliyah made her way to her dad.
"Hello, daddy dear," she said to her dad Terrence with an innocent smile on her face. Aaliyah was the second oldest of four girls and out of the foursome, she was a true daddy's girl.
Terrence looked at her and laughed "What you want, girl?"
"Nothin', I just came in here to talk to my loving father, dang, is that a crime?" She laid her head against his shoulder.
