Twenty-one Days

All the flowers blossomed,
making for an artistic flare
and a romantic air
perfect for our blooming passion.

Sunshine flooded the floor,
painting the world in light;
but for all the beauty surrounding
she stood out as a star on the darkest night.

I will always pause to stare
at the way the light melts the brown of her eyes
making for a twinkle
and a mischievous guise.

We walk together in synchronization,
all laughter and love sprinkling the air.
Everything seems perfect
until everything falls.

Falls apart
falls down
falls to the depths of the universe
falling, falling, falling.

Everything ends in that moment
as the light fades from her eyes
and she slumps to the floor
everything completely wrong within a moment.

I yell for help,
plead for rescue,
beg for mercy
but all is in vain.

My arms encircle her frame
her extremities make for no burden
for all my thoughts are worried
living in fear of death.

The pale green silk of her gown flutters
my arms begin to tremble
all my mind is quaking
I think the world is about to end.

People begin to whisper
sirens start to blare.
She is taken away from me.
They steal her away from me.

Hours come and go
while the cold metal waiting chairs
bite my skin
and the tile burns my pacing feet.

Time swims by in a trance
while my lucid thoughts race
and all of this seems pointless—
life has lost its purpose.

And then the man in white comes out—
he delivers his news.
My knees quake
and my world truly ends.

My love, my dearest has run out of time
lost all her days;
forgotten how to be a living soul;
abandoned her breath for all but twenty-one days.

Twenty-one days of illness.
Twenty- one days of agony.
Twenty-one days 'till the stars fall to earth.
Twenty-one days before the end of it all.
