—Melody's POV—
I can't believe that a**hole had the audacity to come to my room, the one place I thought I could have a little privacy, and ask me to forgive him. I mean how pathetic can he be? Firstly, being a spoiled brat, he can't take no for an answer, so he tattles on me to his father the king. I feel like I'm in kindergarten again. Or at least I would have if I had gone to kindergarten that is. Next, he has me kidnapped and can't even admit that this is exactly what he wanted. "I swear I didn't know! Trust me! I'll send you back!" Please, despite being a commoner, I'm smart enough to know when I am being lied to. I wish he would respect me enough as a person to at least come clean with me. And don't even get me started on his constant whining. Guess that's what happens when you shelter your child from the real world. He just doesn't realize that real people have real problems and that you can't just tell these problems to go away. And yet, there was something about him. Something different than I expected. I can't quite place it, but I know it's the same thing that I witnessed in the village. If I were more naive, I might have misidentified this something as kindness? But I know better. I know any person who can rip another from everything she holds dear can feel no empathy. Anybody who can separate a girl from her true love...
Darren. God, it hurts just thinking about him. Thinking about how heartbroken he must be. He must have woken up alone, scared and looking for me. Only I am in the palace and far out of his reach. He must be furious at himself for letting the knights take me; I wish he knew I could never blame him since none of this was his fault. The thought overwhelms me. My heart aches and I feel tears threatening to spill over because I know that Darren's pain is my fault. My resolves strengthens as I remember the people I left behind. I cannot be kept here without a fight. I need to get back to the people who love me, who count on me. If they won't let me go willingly, then at the very least they won't take me alive...

This is just a filler-ish chapter to give melody's perspective on the encounter and the whole kidnapping thing. I know it's dramatic, so LMK if it's too much/ bothers you, but I felt like this kind of chapter was necessary because I just don't feel like Melody would let this happen to her.
Also, I wrote this out of order, so sorry if this mood change is too drastic. I just wanted to get this in there because I thought it was important that you guys can watch Melody change as a character as well. Hopefully, this chapter does not ruin the flow too much.
