A/N: I could do a whole four updates thing today, pretty sure that was only a one off, lol XD But one is better than none and this one is for Newport63 since you've been so supportive and I wasn't gonna update at all today but she asked me to so here you go :)
Avi had felt so special before he left this morning. Both Scarlett and Paisley wanted to come with him to his audition, but had to settle with giving him a good luck kiss on the cheek. And then Ada, well Ada would not stop crying all morning, no matter what Josh and Sam tried, Avi picked her up and she stopped, her adorable little grin appearing as she tugged on his beard. Then as soon as he put her down she started up again. He'd ended up holding her right up until he left.
And now here he is entering the restaurant with his guitar in its case. He is nervous, of course he is, his music is never what venues are looking for. Avi didn't know if he should change his style or keep looking for venues that like what he does. The second option sounds like the best, but it just isn't working for him.
Today he hopes it will be different, today he hopes they won't ask him to play a bunch of covers of popular songs he didn't like, that break his soul. He'd do covers, but only of songs he likes, so no Justin Bieber or Ariana Grande and the likes of them. Their songs are so over played, he just couldn't bring himself to take time on music everyone had heard a million times before. Of course original music is the dream, but he has to be flexible.
Avi steps up to the reception desk. "Hi, I'm looking for the owner," I'm here to audition for the live music spot."
The young lady behind the desk stares at him for a moment. "Okay." She turns around and yells into the bar area, "DAD!"
"Oh what-what-what, don't yell Melina," an older man sighs as he rushes up the steps. "Oh-oh you must be Avi Kaplan?" he smiles warmly. "My daughter found a video of you on the YouTube, not this daughter," he points to Melina, "My police-woman daughter that works with your brother," he nods. "You are very talented."
"Thank you," Avi smiles. "I haven't really posted on anything on there in a while."
"The bass one was very good," he nods enthusiastically."
"All About That Bass?" He raises an eyebrow.
"Yes-yes, wonderful. You sing that?"
Avi tries to smile, "Sure."
"Then you hired, every Thursday night, Friday night, Saturday night you perform yes?"
Avi nods, "Sounds good." It looks like he brought his guitar for nothing. "Just a moment Sir, um... I won't be playing just that one song over and over again right?"
"Nah, as long as you play it once, maybe two times then you can do whatever else. But nice music, ah nothing violent or ear irritating," he smiles. "Give me moment; I'll get your paperwork."
"Awesome," Avi grins. Turns out he'd just landed the perfect job....
"Come on, that was a brilliant impression," Sam whines.
"I-I don't kn-know wh-who B-Bill Cl-Clinton is."
"You haven't known any of my impressions Scarlett," he mock pouts.
"N-Not true I-I-I g-got St-Stewie," she says starting to speak too quickly.
Sam puts on a Stewie Griffin voice, "That you did my dear, unfortunately for you one correct answer isn't enough, is it Rupert," he turns to Ada in her playpen. Scarlett laughs hard. Sam loves making people laugh, it's why he does comedy. But there's something about making a kid whose been through some pretty tough shit laugh that just feels better. "Oh I can do Homer Simpson," he exclaims.
Scarlett's eyes widen, "No!"
"Yes... mmm doughnuts. Why you little! Mmm pork chops hggggl," he puts on the perfect voice, then turns to Scarlett for her approval.
"It's f-funny when I-I kn-know who they are," she giggles.
"So, how's school?" Sam asks.
Scarlett shrugs, "F-fine, why?"
"Just wondering."
"I-I th-thought you might ask about Dr Quinn again," she pulls a face.
"Okay fine then. How's Dr Quinn?"
Scarlett shakes her head, "That d-didn't m-mean you w-were supposed to as-ask," she rolls her eyes, resisting the urge to face palm herself.
"Oh jeez sorry your majesty," he chuckles.
"She-she's g-got a b-boyfriend, I-I as-asked."
"You did not," Sam goes wide eyed.
Scarlett smirks.
"I already knew she wasn't interested in me Scarlett, you didn't need to ask. Plus I figured she'd have a boyfriend. Look at me, getting things right," he laughs.
"His n-name is F-Finn."
"Well okay then, I totally needed to know that... oh is that Paisley calling?" He jumps up from the sofa.
"N-no."
Sam nods, "It is. Coming Paisley!"
"He's w-weird isn't he Ada," Scarlett laughs....
Avi is just about ready to leave the restaurant. He's filled in his paperwork, been constantly stared at by Melina, it is making him highly uncomfortable. If she is going to be here all the time then working here is not going to be as fun as first thought.
"Oh, I didn't miss you, have you performed yet?" A kind voice speaks from behind Avi. But he didn't know she is speaking to him until she taps him on the shoulder and he spins around.
His jaw almost drops when he sees her, pretty voice, beautiful girl.
"Ah hi," he says, happy he'd discovered words.
"Hey," she smiles, "Have you performed yet?"
He loves her smile, it looks so natural, it reaches her eyes and crinkles her nose.
"Um, actually he didn't get me to perform, he kind of just hired me," he speaks, again grateful for human words.
"That's stellar, sorry, awesome. I like to slip celestial things in, but sometimes I forget not to do that with people I've just met," she giggles, nervously.
Avi looks down with a smile, "Stellar."
She breaks into full laughter, "I like it better when you say it. Like you sound as good talking as you do singing."
"Um, thanks," he chuckles.
She bites her lip as she looks down.
"Do you come here often?" Avi asks quickly, his heart racing.
"To a restaurant that's barely opened? Or is that supposed to be a cheesy pick-up line?"
"The second," he smiles nervously.
She laughs, it's a different laugh, but he could get used to it. "Then um... how good are you at math?"
"Terrible," he says, not sure why they were on math now, were they having two different conversations?
"Oh, well I take it you don't want my number then?"
Any trace of a smile Avi had on his face vanishes. Was he going to do this? Could he do this? Could he possibly bring himself to hand his phone over to a girl he'd just met for her number?
Did he even want her number? Sure she is stunning, and funny, but he'd just been talking to Josh last night about how he wasn't ready to move on from Jess. One night's sleep could not possibly change his mind. One girl could not possibly change his mind, could she?
His hand slowly, cautiously slides around his waistband to his back pocket. And still he hesitates. He is still in love with Jess, at least he thinks he is. Is that why he feels guilty, because he shouldn't. Jess broke-up him, she broke his heart, not the other way around. So no, Avi isn't guilty, Avi should be able to go out with whoever he wants. How could he possibly still love someone that doesn't want him anymore, that thought he was useless because he didn't have a job, because he is pursuing a career in what he loves. Jess is in advertising and she hates it, he'd never do that to himself.
This girl wanted to hear him sing, that seems promising, she is beautiful and she is standing right in front of him asking if he wants her number.
Avi wants her number.
He pulls his phone out with a smile, "I would love your number," he hands her his phone and she hands him hers. Her phone case is the sun and the moon, celestial.
He types in his name and number and saves it, handing the phone back.
"Avi," she smiles. His name sounds so pretty in her voice.
He glances down at his screen to get her name and almost has to do a double take. "You're-"
"Yeah I am, is that a problem?" She asks.
Avi shakes his head, "No, I just remember thinking Aleen, what a beautiful name."
A/N: Votes and comments motivate me and I appreciate them more than you know, I appreciate each and every one,
