"How must we catch it?" Asked Dain but Vidia was already busy.
She grabbed a stick and narrowed it on one end so it was kind of like a spear.
Dain urged Vidia to be careful but the boar was harmless while it was stuck.
Vidia sneaked up behind it and the boar stopped, sensing something was behind it.
As quick as she could, Vidia threw the spear at the boar.
The boar gave a loud squeal and then fell to the ground. Vidia noticed that the spear went into the ribs of the boar.
The spear must've punctured the boar's heart because soon, it had died.
"Wow, I didn't think you were so good at hunting." Dain said.
"Well, I am the queen." Vidia spun around in her dirty, ripped dress that covered her armor. Dain laughed.
"We must make a fire." Vidia suggested.
"Easy." Dain smirked and he grabbed a bottle out of his pocket. He gathered wood and threw them together.
"Is that-" Dain cut Vidia off.
"Sebille potion." Dain said.
Sebille potion was used throughout the kingdoms. It was a potion that anyone could make with proper tools. It set fire to anything it touches first. Perfect for attacks.
Just as Dain was about to put the potion on the wood, Vidia stopped him.
"Perhaps we should save the boar. We might come across more survivors once we follow the river. It will also save the potion." She added.
"Vidia, your suggestions are good, however I'm starving and I know you are too."
"Then," Vidia looked around. She noticed a bush filled with purple berries and picked a few berries off. "Eat these Rusalkas." Dain made a disgusting face.
"Rusalkas are the most disgusting berry there is and it is usually only used for medicine." He whined.
"Then it should cure your hunger." Vidia smiled.
Dain, after lots of persuasion, took the berries and didn't chew them, just swallowed them hole.
He gagged once or twice before finally agreeing with Vidia's plan.
Eating almost all the berries off the bush, Vidia and Dain were still hungry. However, they made their way down to the river.
———-
It was nightfall when Vidia and Dain reached the river. They decided to make camp for He night.
"From when I last looked at the river from the mountain top, I'm guessing we will reach the kingdom around noon tomorrow." Vidia said.
"Yes, I agree."
Dain didn't want to admit it, but he had become to like elves. They spoke kind of weird, which Dain will never understand why, and they always found a solution to every problem.
He found himself wanting to protect Vidia. He wanted to get to know her, maybe even start a relationship with her. However, Dain knew that they could never be in a relationship.
Number one: they belong to different kingdoms and number two: Dain wasn't willing to live in the elf kingdom. He liked his own kingdom.
What kingdom? His kingdom was destroyed. There was nothing left to return to.
"Vidia," Dain began. "I know you don't want to kill me. However, I have no where else to return to. My kingdom is destroyed. You mine as well."
"No, Dain. That's crazy. I'll figure something out. Perhaps you shall live in my kingdom."
"The people will hate me."
"However elves never kill citizens in their own kingdom, no matter who they are."
So now Dain knows that he won't be killed. Great...
Vidia's face was lit up in the fire that was lit using all the Sebille. Dain had been carrying the boar all day and when he set it down, it left blisters on his hands.
"Vidia, this boar won't last much longer. We have to cook it."
"I suppose you're right. Besides, I am starving." Vidia said. Her stomach was nearly empty and she had never been this hungry before. All she could think about was how hungry she was.
Dain cut the boar into slices with the spear Vidia had made and roasted it on a stick in the fire.
"It's just like a real campfire." Vidia smiled at her childhood memories of camping out in the kingdom.
"Campfire." Dain repeated the word. "I have never been in a campfire before. My parents would always force me to be proper or else they would lock me in the dungeons for a day or two without food or water."
"Wow. That is harsh." Vidia didn't want to talk about her family. She have never seen them since she was a child.
Suddenly, a voice came from behind them. Dain stood up and turned around, holding the spear out in front of him. Vidia stood behind Dain.
"Vidia, it's Shea." Shea walked into the light of the fire while helping Elian stand.
"Shea!" Vidia said.
"Prove that you're her." Dain said. He didn't want it to be another monster.
"Vidia, you know it's me." Shea tried to be convincing.
"You fell in the river and got separated from us." Elian said.
"Fine." Dain said and put down his spear. For he knew monsters didn't know any history of the people they took form of.
Shea sat down on the ground and Elian limped to the other side of the fire before sitting down.
Vidia rushed over to Elian.
"Why are you limping?" Vidia asked Elian.
"Marigold." Elian replied and Vidia's heart nearly skipped a beat.
"We must get you back to He kingdom. We should go now, we-" Elian cut her off.
"Vidia, it's only my leg for now. And you need sleep. We all do. I'm sure we can wait until dawn to leave."
As much as Vidia didn't want to admit it, she knew Elian was right.
Together, they all sat around the fire talking about what happened. Dain passed out pieces of the boar to everyone and soon, mostly everyone was asleep.
Dain lay next to Vidia, turned away so Vidia couldn't tell if he was asleep.
"Dain." She whispered and he just waved to her without even turning around.
"Thank you for saving my life." It took Dain by surprise because he didn't respond at first.
"I'm sorry your friend stepped on Marigold." Dain replied. He turned around and faced Vidia.
Vidia shivered in the cold despite the fire. Dain seemed to notice and wrapped an arm around her.
Vidia was too tired to notice what Dain did and soon, fell asleep.
