"Dain, after this, where will we go? You know that the queen won't let us stay because we killed her dad."

"We haven't killed him yet."

"Are you sure you want to? Maybe you're right. One of the first things you said since I saw you today was that you didn't want to fight. You wanted to return to Nyx and rebuild." Kalen pleaded.

"For the first time, I don't know what to do." Dain stopped in the street. Still, no one has been outside since the attack.

"I know that the queen's father had hurt her. However, I don't think that killing him is your choice to make."

"I know, Kalen. However, I can't just leave. Can I?"

"Dain, dating the queen, my enemy, the Nyx enemy, will never work out. Going back to Nyx is your only chance of having a life without enemies."

Dain thought about it. He knew he would miss Vidia. Not just miss her, but think about her twenty-four/seven.

But his kingdom needed him. Vidia is going to get hurt by her father. What should he do?

"I have an idea." Kalen said. He explained everything to me and for the first time in a while, I smiled.

"This might work."

——————-

A few hours later, Vidia and her army, with Shay and Elian by her side, rode up next to her father on horses. Vidia's dad faced her on a horse with his own army he created over the years.

"Dad, please. I just want to live in harmony with the Nyx. The war I started, I ended it as soon as I came back to the Elf Kingdom. But you, you want war. And I can't accept that." Vidia began.

"Vidia," her dad began but Elian cut him off.

"No, don't. Vidia has made up her mind. She has made it clear that if you go through with this war and if you refuse to sign the treaty, she will do whatever it takes to stop you. Even if it means killing you."

Vidia's dad opened his mouth to speak but stopped. "Fine, if you really want, we will have to fight. And when I win, Vidia will come with me."

"Dad," Vidia pleaded. "Please, stop. Would mom want this?"

Her dad's eyes filled with hatred and anger towards Vidia for bringing up her mother.

Her dad screamed and then Vidia did, calling her army to battle. The two armies clashed together, fighting in the center of town.

Men of both armies were thrown of their horses, but Vidia, Shay, and Elian remained strong and killed anyone who went in their way.

Vidia glances over and saw her dad slaughter Vidia's men.

When Vidia was distracted, she didn't notice the man who came up on his horse and stabbed Vidia's Oberon.

Her Oberon fell to the ground and wheezed a few times before dying. Vidia was thrown off and into the ground.

"No!" Vidia screamed. Elian rode up besides her and shot a few arrows before hoisting Vidia up on his Oberon.

Suddenly, Vidia noticed something that didn't quite fit in with the crowd of soldiers fighting. Something that was a different color.

She saw a flash of red armor, where everyone else was either silver or black. She squinted and saw two men shooting arrows without Oberons. They were more powerful than any of Vidia's men, more trained.

It was Dain and his friend. Vidia felt a spark of hope and adrenaline. She jumped off Eian's horse, despite his protests, and began shooting on the ground.

She tried to make her way towards Dain but couldn't with all the men. She continued shooting arrows and killing all her father's men.

Suddenly, Vidia saw Shay being thrown off her horse. She ran towards Shay, dodging all the arrows trying to hit her.

Finally, Vidia reached her. Shay lay on the ground in obvious pain.

"Shay..." Vidia began but stopped when she saw Shay's stomach bleeding.

"No, Shay. We'll get you back to the palace. We, we..."

"Vidia," Shay whispered. "Promise me you will rule this kingdom forever."

Vidia opened her mouth to argue but Shay continued by saying, "Promise me you will stop your dad."

"Shay, of course. I promise." Shay gave one last wheezing breath and Vidia instantly knew that her soul was gone. Life was gone from her eyes. Tears ran down Vidia's face and anger filled her until she was shaking.

She felt a hand on her shoulder and spun around, kicking the intruder in the legs that knocked them to the ground.

Vidia's eyes widened when she realized it was just Dain.

"Dain, please. Kill him. Before he kills Elian, too." Vidia sobbed. She looked around her and enemy soldiers began to attack her.

She easily shot them down, her anger making the kills even more pointless.

Dain looked at Vidia, straight into her tear-filled eyes. His face turned from sorrow to determination.

He stood up and ran deeper into the fight. Vidia knew he was going to kill her dad and she didn't even care anymore. She just wanted her mother back.

She knew the fighting was more brutal the closer you got to her dad. His army would do anything to protect him.

However, Vidia's army would do anything to protect her. They were loyal and swore an oath to join the army.

And with two Nyx on her side, she was bound to win, right?

Some of Vidia's toughest men in her army began to fight around her to make sure Vidia wouldn't get hurt. She was protected enough, but Dain and his friend weren't. They weren't protected by anyone.

Vidia just hoped that Dain wouldn't get hurt in the most brutal part of the battle.

Vidia looked up and past the soldiers protecting her.

Her heart nearly stopped.

"This can't be happening." She whispered.
