Chapter 33
~Jaelyn's point of view~It's been a few months since Jesse and I had visited his mother at the hospital. Now, she wasn't allowed to go out on supervised visits anymore. About her third time visiting she had hurt herself. Hurt herself bad. She had thought the government had put microchips inside of her. She had practically cut herself to bits to try and get the 'microchips' out.
Jesse had found her in our bathroom. She had smashed a handheld mirror and used a shard of it to cut herself. It made no sense to me how his mother could be doing so well and then just get worse at the same time.
Jesse hadn't been the same since he'd found her. He wouldn't talk much to me or anyone really. He'd been basically living at Powerhouse. Luckily during this time, his father was no where to be found. I was snapped back into reality when Mikey called for me.
"Jae, unlock the door!" Mikey banged at the wooden door.
Mikey had a McDonald's bag in his hand and a milkshake in the other. "I brought you some heart stopping food."
I thanked Mikey and sat down on the futon. Mikey shut the apartment door and sat down next to me. He handed me the bag with a sheepish grin. "Don't worry, I didn't eat all the fries."
"Thanks Mikey," Mikey bit the straw of his chocolate milkshake and smiled.
I pulled out a container of fries and started chowing down. "So why'd you decided to bring me such unhealthy food?"
"Because I know that your upset about Jesse not talking to you. Oh, and that he's been basically living at Powerhouse."
I have Mikey a small smile. "You'd figure he would talk to me since we live together. Or if anything I thought he would have talked to you or Joey."
Mikey kicked his shoes off and stretched his legs out across my lap. "I could be wrong, but I think he's talking to Joey a little bit. He won't talk to me though. I tried going to the gym yesterday and talk to him but he went MIA as soon as he saw me."
I was mostly hurt that Jesse wasn't talking to me. I knew he didn't have to but I just wished he did. I'm pretty sure it's safe to say that we're dating. But that didn't mean he had to tell me every single thought that ran through his beautiful mind.
Well at least three or four weeks ago I could have confidently said we were dating. Now I wasn't so sure if that was what he wanted.
"Maybe he'll come home today." I knew what I was saying couldn't be true. I told myself that everyday.
Mikey let out a sigh. "I know kiddo. Listen if you need some place to stay you can come and stay with me and Joey. You've done it before. You can do it again."
"Thank you Mikey," If Jesse wasn't going to come home tonight, I would consider the offer. I didn't like being alone at night. I wasn't used to it anymore. Every little noise would freak me out. I would've stayed at Lacy's but she's barely home because she's been taking up every shift she can at Euphoria.
"You know what? Let's go to the gym now. Jesse is probably there. Maybe once he sees you he will snap out of his mood. I get his mom is messed up, but he can't shut us all out." With that we put down our McDonalds and headed to the gym.
**As soon as we entered the gym, I started scanning the crowd for Jesse. I saw him by himself on a treadmill running.
I looked at Mikey and motioned to the treadmill Jesse was on. Mikey nodded and we made out way to him. As soon as Jesse noticed us he stopped the treadmill and pulled his headphones out of his ears.
I wanted to badly to give him a hug. I missed him. I haven't seen him in weeks. I just stood there beside Mikey awkwardly.
"Mate, we came because we're worried about you. Talk to us."
Jesse lifted the bottom of his shirt up and used it to wipe his face. "If I wanted to talk I would've come to you."
Jesse's tone didn't surprise me. I knew he would act like this. "Jesse, at least come home."
Jesse looked at me, his icy glare faded. "I've been staying at a hotel. I paid for one more night."
"Why would you pay to stay at a hotel?"
Did he really not want to be near anyone that bad?"Because I needed time alone." Jesse hissed.
I bit my lip and looked at Mikey. He was just as worried as I was. "Jesse, screw a bloody hotel. Come back the apartment. I understand you're upset about your mother's situation-"
"No shit I'm upset! She almost died. She cut herself to bits. I can't be in that apartment right now."
I understood why Jesse isn't want to be in the apartment. His mom hurt herself there. I didn't blame him. It was hard to look at. Especially since I had to scrub every drop of it off of the tiles.
"Do you want to get a new apartment? We can move." I knew it would be nearly impossible to find a new apartment in Seattle. Openings were nearly impossible.
"No, just give me time."
