Rennan drove in silence, following the directions he had found in Violet's head earlier. He parked the car outside of her apartment building easily and yanked the key out of the car. Rennan strolled to the other side of the car and lifted Violet out of the seat.
The pizza box that Leo had sent with the pair floated behind then as Rennan brought Violet up the stairs to her apartment. Rennan muttered a simple spell when they reached her door and it swung open easily to let them in.
Rennan walked into the small apartment and looked around, the pizza box floated into the kitchen and set itself down on the counter. Violet's apartment was small and simple. Rennan was standing in the small living room, there was a small couch pushed against the wall and he could see the stairs that led upstairs to her room and a bathroom and took her up there. He placed her on top of the bed and brought a soft blanket up over her sleeping form. Violet shifted as she was set down and Rennan turned away to look around the apartment. She had a few pictures on her wall, most of them were of far away places but there were some of her family. He walked over to a door in her room and opened it to reveal the bathroom. He skimmed through all of her drawers rather easily and turned back around to face her bed. There was a small box sitting off to the side of her bed and he opened it to look inside.
Rennan's face split into a grin as he went to open the box further, "This should be fun."
The bed rustled behind him as Violet turned around with her eyes cracked open, "Don't look through my stuff," she mumbled. Her eyes drooped closed completely and Rennan closed the box before standing up to leave. He caught a glimpse of light coming through a window on the other side of her bed and carefully sat on the bed to look outside.
The window led to the fire escape outside, which had a number of potted plants decorating it. Rennan let the curtain fall back into place and left the room, walking back downstairs and into the kitchen. The pizza had placed itself on the island in the middle of the kitchen, and Rennan opened the box and grabbed a slice of the food.
He leaned on the island as he ate, wondering why he made a deal with Violet. There was hardly any benefit in it for him, he just had an easy way to stay on Earth for a while. Rennan tensed as he heard a thump upstairs and vanished up the stairs to where Violet was. Violet was twisting and turning in her bed, her fist arced wildly through the air and hit the wall again before falling to her side as she curled into a ball. Her face was contorted in pain, tears leaking through her closed eyes as she suffered through her nightmare. Her heart beat was steadily increasing and Rennan could tell that it was getting harder for her to breath. Curious about what was happening in her dream, he sat down on the bed beside her and placed his hand on her forehead. His eyes glowed purple as he dove into her mind and viewed her nightmare with her.
Violet was trapped in empty darkness, surrounded by nothing. A hand shot out of the darkness and grabbed at her hair. Violet jerked away before the hand could close around her hair and looked around warily, waiting for something else to appear. Another hand appeared from the shadows as she stood still and grabbed her ankle. Violet kicked it off of her and back into the shadows. She dodged the next one that came for her hair again and fought off or avoided the next few that attacked her. A set of hands appeared from behind her and Rennan watched as they grabbed her shoulders and threw her to the ground with a sick thud. She landed on her side and didn't get up, breathing heavily. Footsteps echoed around her and she closed her eyes. Rennan looked over her and watched her shaking form curl into a ball as the screaming started.
"You worthless bitch!" a man yelled, "You can't even go to a dinner without making a mess and ruining my image can you." A choked sob wracked Violet's body as she listened to the footsteps growing closer. "Why the hell are you crying?! You deserve this for making a fool of me!" There was a loud slap and more yelling as Violet's body shook harder. Rennan watched as a man dressed in a dark suit stepped from the shadows and stopped in front of Violet. The man glared down at her in disgust as she laid shaking at his feet.
"I'm sorry father. I'm so sorry." The man grabbed her hair in his fist and pulled her up. She shrieked as her face was revealed and Rennan felt his stomach twist. The man raised his hand and smacked her across the face. Violet's head jerked to the side and she went quiet, silent tears rolling down her cheeks as the man screamed at her. The man slapped her again and threw her to the ground. Rennan winced at the echo of her head hitting the concrete and took a step forward. He stopped himself before he went to help her and waited for something else to happen, partly hoping that Violet would fight back. The man started to kick her in the stomach and she simply curled in on herself as he got more violent.
Rennan growled lowly as the man yanked her up by her hair again, "Now what the fuck do you say when you make me look bad?" Violet's eyes were downcast and she didn't say anything for a second as the man screamed, "Answer me you stupid whore!"
Rennan tensed as Violet opened her mouth, "I'm sorry, fath-"
He growled at her apology and forced himself into her dream completely, "Shut up, Violet." Rennan stalked over to the pair and ripped the man away from Violet. Violet crumpled to the ground with a sigh and Rennan glared over at the man that was stumbling back over to them.
"What the fuck do you think you're doing!" the man said, a cool anger coating his words, "This is between that thing and I." Rennan stared at the man incredulously as the stranger walked closer to Rennan and Violet. Violet coughed violently behind him and Rennan looked behind him to see her sitting up with her hand covering her mouth. Her hand fell away and blood stained her lips from where she had coughed it up. Rennan turned back towards the stranger who was now frozen in place, gaze fixed on the blood spilling from Violet's mouth. "It makes no sense. No fucking sense." The man shuffled closer and Rennan tensed at the crazed look in his eyes. "Red blood. There's no red blood in this family." Rennan looked back at Violet, her eyes shone with defiance and she glared at the man that had beaten her, "Then that means I'm not a part of this family." Violet stood up on shaky legs and continued, "So thank god for that because I don't want to be part of something like this." The man's eyes widened and he shook his head furiously, "No that can't be right. This is the head family. We are leaders. Everyone wants to be part of this." Violet shook her head and the man grew more frenzied. Rennan wrapped his arm around violet and pulled her into his arms, "I think we've had enough of this."
