I stared at my stony face in the mirror. I looked like a vampire, all dressed in black, from head to toe. I hated wearing my black outfit, it scared little kids as they approached the hotel when I was wearing it, but for my brother's funeral, it would have to do. I snatched up a bouquet of plastic flowers that I had bought for a cheap price at the second hand store. They were scruffy, but for the rest in good shape. Ma wouldn't mind, she wouldn't be able to scold me since her sight had lately become very poor. I guess it was the own twit's fault that she refused to wear her glasses.
Before leaving my apartment I got a second thought about going. I mean, who would muss me anyway? Nobody in my family liked me, they were even fortunate that they remembered to send me an invitation to the funeral. this was really protrotious, but this will be the last My family will want me to do.
Just befoe I stepped out of the apartment, I decided that going to the funeral would be sn exchange for going for Christmas. Oh Christmas! How I hated that celebration! Always going round spending money on silly little things for someone else's entertainment! What a scandal!
I called a cab and stepped in briskly, telling the driver the address I was destined for. "Sweet Marrow Passageway, and be quick avout it young lad! I don't have all day" I commanded, sourly.
I sat back, glaring at the whipers of the cab swishing back and forth. We arrived all to soon and I stepped out under a cloudy sky, promising even more rain, which had momentarily stopped.
I payed the taxi driver and headed towards the only building in the whole deserted area. Only crows flew over it, guarding the dead.
As I pushed open the doors, I was immediately enveloped by the crowd. Everyone was holding handkerchiefs at eye level, to quickly hide any escaping tears. I immediately saw Ma, in her black dress and bonnet, slumping deep in a chair. So this was probably the most embarassing ceremony in my life. Breathe deep...
"Ma I brought you flowers" I stated simply.
"Jack dear, is that you?" Ma replied, as she squinted through her spectacles, as if that would help her see any better.
"Yes and I just told you I brought you flowers." I said impatiently.
"Why for William's coffin?" replied Ma between sniffs. I breathed a heavy sigh, the hag had abseloutely no idea that the flowers were OBVIOUSLY MEANT FOR HER!
"No for you Ma, and now I will be going I have a meeting to attend."
All of a sudden all life rushed back into Ma's body "What? nonsense, aren't you going to attend the funeral? What kind of a brother are you? Devil's child!" Said Ma raging with anger.
As you can tell, my mother is extremely religious. and I'll tell you another thing, your parents have this mental power over you which can make you do stuff against your will however old and independent you get. Unless they die ofcourse.
I wished Ma had died instead of William, infact if it was for her I'd probably not even show up at her funeral.
