Rory planted a longing kiss on her cheek before telling her he'd pick her up at eight and just wear something comfortable. He knew she'd look beautiful in any clothing she'd choose.
He only hoped he would be of equal favor in her eyes. The whole evening Zoe had wracked through her closet with Dacia not too far behind to give an opinion when needed. She settled for a nice blue cotton dress with a plated brown waist belt and decorative white stitched material shaping the tops of the dress quite nicely.
Dacia had helped her curl her hair and do a light blush on her cheeks with a dark shadow around her eyes.
She applied almost every natural scented product on her skin for moisture. She had ended up shaving her whole body , moisturizing it and pampering herself. It felt good to take some time off and relax.
She did a small twirl in front of the standing mirror overlooking herself. Her hair was neatly curled with a few pearl pins holding up her hair the blu dress standing out against her skin giving her the appeal of illustriousness.
The doorbell chimes and before she could answer it she had to settle for Dacia taking a few pictures before going downstairs to the door.
Even though it was eight she couldn't be too sure it was Rory so she cheeked the peephole first before opening the door.
What they both saw had them gaping with their mouths open in obvious attraction.Rory had on a form fitting obsidian suit with a white button up underneath and brown Italian loafers. His hair was early gelled back and placed into a small bun with his beard trimmed to a shorter length. His scent enveloped her nostrils but she couldn't place it all she knew was that it made her want to breath him in the whole night.
Rory's gaze mirrored her own as he gave her a single red peony. It was her favorite plant all the more because it was a common plant like the cliche roses. A peony represented far better qualities to her than a measly rose and Rory knew that.
"Let me put this in a pot" she ran to her make shift greenhouse in the closet and placed it in a fresh pot of humus and watered it before changing the temperature.
She came back to find Rory in the same spot as before it wasn't like it was new territory to him but his nerves were on high alert.
"Can I get you something Roar?" She asked. That seemed to snap him out of his reverie.
"No I'm fine" he smiled reassuringly "are you ready to go?" his hand laced firmly with hers.
"WAIT!" Dacia came barreling into the living room with a cannon camera.
"Oh my god" Zoe turned away from the sight of her friend embarrassing her like a parent would a child on their prom night."Just two pictures" she pleaded holding he camera to her chest with a puppy dog face.
"Fine" Rory nodded looking down at Zoe's blushing face nuzzling their faces together to make her feel better.
The flashing of a camera lens did not go unnoticed by the couple as they simultaneously groaned.
This was supposed to be private
They both turned and smiled for the camera one last time before leaving the running through the front door like a stampede.
Rory opened the passengers door for her before buckling her up and closing the door, retreating to his and starting the car pulling off the same time .
The whole ride he made jokes to pass the time till they were both in a comfortable silence. He stopped the car at the clearing he passed every morning.
Fairy lights hung on the trees as a single table occupied with two chairs took the full attention of Zoe as she noticed the bottle of champagne in an ice bucket with peony heads inside and two silver covered platters.
She took sight of the running water by the stream, a radio softly playing music in the background.
He pulled out the chair for her before sitting down himself and uncovering both platters. She gasp at the site of a big juicy Mac with curly fries and onion rings with barbecue sauce. He knew everything she wanted
They both dug in conversing with their sounds of appreciation. Zoe was stuffed to say the least. She stared at Rory her eyes sparkling in adoration for the perfect date.
He spread a thick blanket on the soft grass laying her down beside him as they both gazed on the plethora of stars in the sky. A gust of wind blew past and Zoe shivered. Rory took off his jacket and wrapped himself around her as they both gazed in wonder when a shooting star flew pass the other stars.
"Make a wish" her soft whisper lulled his ears.
'I wish this moment would last forever' and he meant it.
"Rory" she gazed up at him from his chest.
He responded back with a short "mmm"
"I used to have the deepest crush on you, It always felt like my heart would burst if I was too near to you. I remember this one time you stood next to me and I nearly fainted. I always thought that you'd pick someone else. Someone who could go out late nights, someone who understood why you do the things you do, someone your age" she was never good with words but for some odd reason she felt like a load was lifted from her shoulders.
"Why didn't you ever come out and tell me how you feel" his younger self would've died if he'd have got a chance with Zoe.
"I don't know, I guess I was just scared of being rejected by the one person who I could actually say I love" was this what it was supposed to feel like? Was she in love cause she sure felt like it. He was so special to her.
The feelings were mutual.
"I could never see myself with any one other than you Zoe and even when I left I never looked at another the way I look at you" What was that feeling blossoming on her chest.
She felt her cheeks become unnaturally warm and she knew she was blushing.
He looked at her for a while longer before leaning in and kissing the corner of her mouth so delicately.
"Zoe I want for us to be in a relationship, I want to take things slow to our own pace and not what others want it to be. Would you do me the honor of accompanying me on a next date?" Good lord how could she deny him.
"It would be my pleasure"
