One day she was walking home, as she normally did. The same pathway with the small stones, the buzzing insects, and the beaming sunlight streaming through the trees tops.
But this time, something felt different.
Something was different.
She heard a small buzzing sound coming from her left, a quiet and suspicious sound that was different than any insect she had ever heard. But it did not sound like an insect, yet it still sounded alive.
She observed her surroundings, making sure nobody was around. Her mother had told her stories of children who got taken away by horrible men, and she did not want to be one of them.
Grabbing her pocket knife, she slowly walked further into the forest towards the sound, her curiosity trumping her knowledge of knowing something that was wrong with what she was doing.
Her shoes cracked the twigs on the dirt floor, her hands pushing the branches out of her way.
The buzzing was louder now, and her heart sped up with adrenaline.
Suddenly, she entered a clearing. No bigger than a bathroom, with long grass covering the whole surface of the floor. But in the centre of the clearing the buzzing became louder than ever.
The sound was taking over her senses, giving her a small headache. It made her want to turn around, to get out of here and to leave it alone, but something told her to walk towards it.
She stepped closer and suddenly the buzzing stopped, leaving an eerie silence that made her breathing sound like elephants stomping.
She looked around her, but nothing had changed. Except when she went to leave she tripped over a hard object.
All was left was a small box sitting in the middle of the clearing, a glowing light escaping through the cracks and lighting up the floor beneath it.
She didn't realize the importance of the box, or all the chaos it would cause once she opened it, all she knew then was that somehow that box was meant to be hers.
