Gotham was only a couple hours away from New York City. That was half the reason why you chose to apply for this job. It was far enough away to separate you from the Avengers shenanigans, but close enough that Tony would never think to look here on his own.

You were in your car, only ten minutes in, but already you had seen the similarities between Gotham and New York City. It was another big city filled with busy people, horrible traffic, and tall buildings. You almost felt at home. A sigh escaped your lips as you leaned back in your seat and let the random song on the radio drift through the car speakers. After you had received the email from Mr. Deusericus’ assistant you had gotten ready to leave in almost record breaking time. Through the entire week of packing and hiding from the others, you hadn’t even had time to google ‘Gotham City’ and see what it was famous for. You were technically coming in blind, but it was a job and a good one at that.

You’d be working at a hospital, recently merged with Wayne Enterprises, called Gotham General in Emergency medicine, essentially you’d be their new ER doctor. A part of you worried that some people wouldn’t respond well to how young you were.

As your car pulled to a stop at the red light your mind wandered to the others back home. Were they searching for you? Maybe Tony had already found some of the false trails you left. You had created 12 fake trails and even more trails under those if he thought to dug deeper. It had taken you hours to set up but if it bought you time it was worth it.

Your eyes darted to the gauges on your car and you realized you were dangerously low on gas. It looked like it might have enough to get you to Wayne Enterprises near the middle of the city, but you didn’t want to take that chance and end up stranded and late to your meeting with Mr. Deusericus.

The nearest gas station was around the next block. It was a small station connected with an auto shop named ‘Highwind and Singer Repair’. You noticed a few people in mechanic type jumpsuits coming in and out, working on a car out front, but you also noticed the sketchy type people walking across the street. It didn’t faze you much because of the life you had lived. After being held at gunpoint so many times it had slowly lost its mind-numbing shock. No doubt it could still put ice in your blood, but your mind had learned to turn a blind eye.

You turned the car off, grabbed your wallet, and stepped out. The overhang over the gas pumps kept the sun from beating down on your head as you stood by the pump, but you could still feel the warmth of the afternoon settle on your skin. It didn’t help that you wore a professional, dark gray A-line skirt with matching blazer. You opened your wallet and pulled out your credit card. ‘[Name] [Middle Initial] Rogers’ was written across the brand new card. A smirk danced across your lips. It wasn’t so much that you weren’t good at coming up with fake names, but it was just another way for you to hide in plain sight. You seriously doubted any of them would look for your real first name and Steve’s last name.

You lifted your gaze to the machine only to see it didn’t accept cards. Without missing a beat, you stuck the card back and headed toward the gas station entrance. It was like any other gas station you’ve seen. Five aisles of junk food followed by a wall of drinks and beer. The cashier sat behind a counter guarded by thick glass and metal bars.
