Cid threw a wrench into the large, red toolbox before grabbing an already dirty rag to wipe away excess grease from his hands. He tossed that aside as well and waved to one of the last crew men to leave for the day. He sighed and rubbed his left shoulder. It seemed like every day his joints got a little stiffer. Cid let out a gruff scoff, he wasn’t old enough to have those thoughts yet. The detectives that basically lived upstairs in his damn fridge always called him old, and he’d throw himself off his building before giving them any more reason to believe that. Cid moved toward his office but stopped when he spotted Gippal standing in the back with his arms crossed tightly over his chest.

“Why the hell are you still here?” Cid barked and stepped out the back garage door to him.

Gippal turned and gave him a cheeky grin, “You say that like you want me gone, Cid.”

“I count the seconds till you leave.” Cid replied and stopped beside him. He let his eyes glance over the fresh bandages on Gippal’s neck. The fire had brushed him, but things could’ve ended a hell of a lot worse for the younger man. “Seriously though, what are you doing here? You’re usually the first to leave.”

“Just thinking about some things.” Gippal answered vaguely before returning his gaze to the black, broken car in the back. Cid focused his gaze on your car as well. It would get towed sometime tomorrow to the junk yard, but for now it remained a reminder of what could’ve happened.

Cid nodded, “I think about it too.” He heard someone come out the office door and head in this direction. It was probably Bobby. He continued, “Maybe we could’ve done something different, you know? Saved her car somehow. Kept it from getting this badly damaged.”

Bobby had a trash bag in his hand and moved past Cid and Gippal to throw it away. He gave them a nod for a greeting.
