Mikasa
"Tsk." Captain Levi made a sound between his teeth. I looked at him.
"What?" He looked down at me with anger in his eyes.
"We're lost." My heart pounded.
"What...?"
"I said, we're lost, brat." 'Brat?'
"I'm not a brat! If anything, you're the brat here for-"
"Quit squirming! You're gonna make me drop you." I growled at him in frustration. I sat in silence and listened to him bicker to himself about which way to go.
"Tuh. Mr. Tough guy isn't so tough is he?" I smirked at my comment.
"I know my way." He snapped.
"Oh really? Then which way captain? Doesn't seem like you do to me." I teased.
"Oi, are you deaf? I said I know my way, you damn brat." 'Why does he keep calling me a brat?' I sighed.
"Shit." Levi cussed allowed.
"What is it now?" 'He needs to stop complaining.' For some odd reason, I had this feeling of security.
"I'm out of gas." I bugged my eyes.
"Wait! We can use my gas. It's nearly full."
"Not right now, we have to save it." He was right. If we used it right now, we wouldn't be able to save ourselves from the titans. He's smarter than I thought.
"Eren...Eren! Levi! We need to-"
"It's "Captain" Levi to you and I know. That's what I am trying to do. Why else do you think I was out here alone? I came to find Eren, but instead, I found you." Did he hate me? I should be the one hating him.
"I hate you." I muttered.
"Huh?" He looked at me with furrowed eyebrows.
"I know you do not care for Eren, so why are you trying to find him?" I felt his grip around my waist tighten.
"If I didn't care for him, wouldn't you think I would've left him to die?"
"Well, obviously! He's out there alone and he might be in some serious trouble! I for sure do think you did!" He was quiet for a while. I wondered what he was thinking about. Was what I said actually true? Did he really mean to abandon Eren? Or...did he really care for him?
"I'm sorry for accusing you. I don't know what's going in that head of yours and gives me no right to make up assumptions."
"You despise me, don't you." I wasn't sure how to answer that without sounding rude or offensive.
"I do." I sighed. Welp, the truth came out.
"Tsk. Like I give a damn about you." At that moment, my heart actually felt shattered. I grabbed my chest hurtfully, without trying to make it too noticeable.
"You asked." I sounded emotionless even though my chest was hurting. I haven't felt this much pain since my parents died. Why did it hurt so much?
"Oi, why are you crying." I gasped and felt my cheek. I'm...crying...? What for? Why now?
"I-I'm not!" I pouted in anger. I realized that we've been going about the forest for a while now.
"Captain Levi, how much longer until your gas is empty?" I changed the subject
"Good timing."
"Huh?" Levi rushed to the nearest tree branch and sat me down.
"I'm out. Can you move you at all?" He actually questioned me, for once. I put all my weight on my back, which leaned up against the trunk of the tree and pushed upward.
"K-k..kinda.." I said breathlessly. I suddenly lost my balance and toppled over the branch I was standing on and fell.
"Mikasa!" I grabbed the branch with one hand and held on for dear life. Here I was, once again, almost at my death or maybe this will be my death.
"Tsk." I clenched my jaw. 'I'm so weak.' I felt Levi try to pull me up but I stopped him.
"Stop. I can do this on my own." I wasn't even sure if I could.
"Would you stop being so stubborn? You're hurt, so how the hell are you going to be able to pull yourself up?"
"I said, I can do this on my own!" I shouted slightly feeling my anger flare.
"Tsk! You baka! Oi! Listen to me Mikasa, you're gonna fall and I won't be able to save you, you brat. Now grab my hand, Anata wa sukoshi bakada!" I wasn't sure if I should grab a hold of his hand or not but I looked at him in the eyes and bit my lip.
"Please." I widened my eyes slowly. Levi said please? The wind blew into his hair and I automatically noticed his good looks; his eyes were shining down at me like glittering stones. Even though he still didn't show an expression of despiration or sadness, or happiness, I knew he wanted me to take him by the hand.
I threw my hand at his. I'm living. I can't die. I looked at Levi and noticed his expression changed. He pulled me up to his chest and hugged me close.
"You need to stop acting so tough all the time. Everyone had a rough childhood." He spoke in a stern tone. He smelled good. Inching my nose a little nearer to his neck, I breathed in his scent which was nothing not all like my father's, who always had a hint of tobacco smoke lingering about his person. In fact, Levi's scent was so much more exotic; I could recognize the brand of cologne he used: one of my favorites, intermingling with the outlandish aroma of charcoal flames and cinnamon. Why did his aroma intoxicate me? The smell actually felt good. How can a smell feel so good?
"Like you're the one to talk..." I said so softly that I don't think he heard.
"Levi..." I looked into his eyes and whispered. At this instant, I felt a sense of security. I felt as if he were to kiss me right now, all the pain would vanish into the darkest parts of my memory. Something about him felt familiar and warm. Maybe I didn't love Eren...
"Levi, can you..." I wanted him to be closer to me. I never thought he could befuddle someone like me in this way.
"...hold me just a little while longer?" My body went limp and my vision became blurry. I decided I was tired and haven't slept in two days.
"Hmph," He chuckled lowly next to my ear.
"You baka." In that instant, I blacked out.
