Everything Is... Alright?

Waking up outside without any coverage isn't the best idea I've ever had. The morning dew had fallen and covered my body with a thin layer of water. My back and neck were stiff from the position I fell asleep in and my legs were curled up under me which resulted in them being half asleep.
I sat up and took in my surroundings. The birds were singing their morning song, nearby cars roaring as their driver's headed to work, and people panting as they went on their morning jog.
I pulled out my phone and checked for the time and any messages. The regular texts popped up when I disappeared during a mental breakdown and no one knows where I am. My mom's multiple texts came up.
"Where are you? Are you okay? Your tracker says you're at the cemetery. If you need anything just text me. Please text me back. I'm worried."
She sent those around midnight and earlier this morning. I hope she went to bed. I forgot she has a habit of staying up whenever I'm out late.
I continued scrolling through my notifications which consisted of mainly games and my new friend Ashley asking if I'd seen a post about Twenty One Pilots. I texted her I hadn't and she immediately sent me a link.
"Guess it's time to get comfortable," I mumbled to myself as I adjusted next to my grandma's headstone once again.
The link pulled up a post on the Alternative Press website that had a picture of TØP announcing that they were holding an art convention for their fans to take anything they've made inspired by the band. Excitement immediately enveloped me but then I realized I didn't have anything to take.
I sent Ashley a text of my concerns.

Me: I don't have anything to take but it's near where I live. Do you have anything to take? I can just tag along with you.
Ashley: Yeah actually! I didn't know you lived in Columbus!
Me: Yeah I'm just visiting my parents and while I was here I went to the concert in Dover, Delaware where we met.
Ashley: Oh that's cool!
Ashley: I'll text you back later and let you know about Artøpia.
Me: Alrighty
I guess it was time to text my mom back so I sent her a text saying that I woke up and I was heading home.
"Thanks grandma for the sleepover," I called back to her headstone as I made my way to my car.

•••••••• Fast forward to noon •••••••

Walking in through the door was like an explosion into a reality where the rain was falling but all was silent. Then out of nowhere, comes the giant BOOM of thunder.
My mom was all over me worrying about where I was and what was going on.
"Calm down, calm down! I'm alive and I'm fine. See?" I did a little twirl in place.
"Okay I'll take it," my mom hesitated and looked me up and down before shuffling over to the kitchen. "Are you hungry? I bet you are," my mom glances up from the kitchen counter.
"Yeah actually," I responded as I followed suit to the kitchen table.
"So..." started my mom.
Oh no. Here come all the awkward questions and me being all dodgy with them.
"How was last night?" she finished.
"It wasn't too bad. I got a little bored before you guys got home so I went to visit Grandma. I guess I just lost track of time," I glanced down at the table and noticed a crack in the shape of a Y. I rubbed my finger over it and continued talking to my mom. "I suppose I was just tired and fell asleep there.
My mom nodded even though she knew I was lying. "Well, I'm glad you got home then. Want any bacon with your eggs?"
And just like that, conversation over.
I checked my phone as I felt a buzz.

Ashley: Hey! So I figured out my schedule and I can go! When are you going back home? Maybe we can have a sleepover after?
This actually sounds like a ton of fun! Wow, now I'm excited.
Me: I'm heading home June 10. We can make it a road trip if you want. Then we can catch you a plane back home, yeah?

My mom placed my plate of eggs and bacon in front me. The steam from them wafted up to my nose and made my stomach grumble.
"Thanks mom," I said. My phone buzzed again.

Ashley: That sounds great! How long do you think the road trip will take?

As we figured out the details to our trip my mind wandered to Josh. I want to text him but I don't want to seem like I'm clingy or that I only like him because he's famous.
People that only love and marry because of money or popularity make me sick. It's not even real what they have and they're basically just leeching off of one person. I feel bad for the person being leeched since they might actually love the leacher. I just hope it doesn't seem like I want to do that to Josh. I think I actually like him because of who he is. I could care less about money as long as I have food in my stomach and a roof over my head, I'm content.
"I'm heading to the store. We ran out of milk and eggs."
My mom snapped me out of my thoughts and brought me back to reality. I guess I also have to figure out what I'm going to do with my future. I let out a groan.
"Not a morning person?" My step-dad walked into the kitchen with a smile. He's seen me all too often how much I hate mornings. Hate is a strong word, but a strong word is needed for when someone has a dislike this strong.
I flash my famous sarcastic smile at him, "Are you kidding? Mornings are my favorite! This time though, I was actually just thinking about school."
"Ahh the famous college and career. Do you have any idea what you want to do?" He sat down at the table in front of me with a bowl of cereal in hand.
"None. Zip. Nada," I groan out as I allow my head to slip to the table.
He takes a bite of his cereal and through the crunches asked, "Well, what do you like? Let's start there."
I raise my head just enough for me to make eye contact with him. "I guess I like cinematography, graphics, traveling, and culture."
My step-dad squints his eyes at me, "You are going to go places," he slams to table and makes me jump. "In fact! You can go places with that Josh kid you like. He travels doesn't he?" He then continued to eat his cereal slowly, studying my reaction.
My feelings uplifted and got a little hopeful for a moment but was quickly diminished. "What if something happens while they're on tour? It'll get awkward. Besides, they already have a photographer."
"It's a bad idea to try and steal a boyfriend's close friend's job," I gave him a questioning look at the word "boyfriend" he threw in. "But, I suppose you two could work as a team."
"Hmm maybe." It's definitely something I'll have to think about. I'll have to talk to Josh and my bosses at work. Money will definitely be needed.
My step-dad studied me from across the table as if he could read my thoughts.
"Gotta go!" I shouted as I sprung up from the table and ran to my room. My sudden burst of energy and determination came out of the blue.
I quickly pulled out my laptop from my backpack as I hurriedly turned it on before my burst ran out of energy and withered away into procrastination.
Looking up the details to what's needed for this kind of job and the necessities needed, I pulled out a notepad and started jotting down notes. I'll have to add onto the classes I'm taking at the Columbus College of Art and Design since I originally wanted to have my career as an artist. Turns out though, I'm really not that good at it or enjoy it very much.
I kept scrolling through what needed to be done and what I need to know in order for a job like this. Before I knew it, the sun was setting and it was almost time for dinner.
I was so wrapped up in my thoughts I hadn't allowed my body to talk to me. Now that I calmed down though, my stomach immediately started to grumble and make the noises of a beached whale.
"I guess I'll have to feed you," I sighed as I got up to walk to the kitchen.
"Just in time! I'm making some spaghetti. Do you want some?" My mom swirled around the kitchen, like a ballerina, while cooking.
"Yeah I kinda got hungry caught up in some work and research I'm doing," I shrugged as I served myself some water.
"Oh? What were you looking at?" She asked as she started combing the sauce with the pasta
"I'm looking into photography and cinematography to see what I can do with that. Dad also mentioned how I could travel with Josh since I also want to travel." I took a sip of my drink to avoid eye contact with my mom in fear of what her response was going to be.
"That sounds like a ton of fun but you know the risks you could be taking with that, right?"
I nodded in surprise as she served me some spaghetti. "Yeah I know. I still want to do that though."
"I'm glad you're figuring things out then, honey," she mentioned as she sat down to eat.
My step-dad, well just my Dad now, joined us and the conversation bounced from my future career and future to my parents' lives. It was actually kind of nice since I haven't talked to them about serious stuff lately. It was good to catch up on their lives as well.
Our voices and laughter carried through the house as I questioned how I was going to pull off my new dream.
