2 ➳ THE WRITINGS OF EVERETT REID
"You said you found something?" Elise inquired as she entered the veterinary office. Deaton looked up from behind the desk, flashing the girl a welcoming smile. Aside from Derek, Deaton had been the one to help Elise develop her abilities the most. She was more than grateful for his help, even if it was mostly based on guesswork.
"I might've," Deaton said, moving away from his desk to rummage through a set of drawers nearby. After a moment, he produced a small, leather-bound book. "This belonged to Everett Reid. I believe she may have been the woman in your vision."
"What is it?" Elise asked, taking the book as he held it out to her. "Like a spell book or something?"
Deaton let out a light chuckle before replying. "Sorry to disappoint, but it's something much more mundane. It's a journal."
"This is great," Elise beamed, turning the journal around in her hands. If Everett Reid was the woman in her vision, if Everett Reid was Elise's birth mother, then the journal that Deaton had found could give Elise some sort of insight into her abilities. She could feel that there was more power bubbling beneath her skin, ready to show itself to the world, but thus far, Elise had managed to suppress it.
Holding the journal, though, she felt it rise a little closer to the surface.
"I better get going," Elise bid Deaton goodbye, heading toward the exit of the office. Suddenly, every muscle in her body froze. She felt the rough cover of the journal slip from her hands as the world before her shifted.
"Count down with me, Isaac," the woman instructed as she lifted a claw-tipped finger. "One."
Elise felt Isaac struggle to remain conscious as he shifted in the hospital bed.
She lifted another finger, "Two.
"Three," she growled, eyes a gleaming shade of red.

Elise pushed open the door to the Hale house as Derek entered, carrying an unconscious Isaac in his arms. Scott followed shortly after, in a brisk phone conversation with Stiles. Derek set Isaac down on a nearby table and began digging through a pile of scraps as Scott ordered Stiles to meet them there.
"What are we doing here, anyway?" Elise asked, standing next to her brother. After Elise had gotten her vision at Deaton's office, she'd immediately called Derek and the two had met at the hospital. They'd arrived just as Scott was being attacked by an alpha intending to kidnap Isaac. The most curious part of it all was that the Alpha that had been kidnapping Isaac wasn't the one Elise had seen in her vision.
The one that they'd stopped from killing Scott was a large, burly man with short cropped hair. In her vision, Elise had seen a tan-skinned woman with long hair and a cruel smile.
"There's something here that can help heal a wound from an Alpha," Derek explained, grabbing a few items from the pile he'd been rummaging through.
"But it is healed," Scott insisted, motioning to the lack of blood on Isaac's hospital gown.
"No," Elise interjected, grabbing Isaac's hand as he stirred lightly. "It's not healed on the inside. I can feel it."
Derek nodded, getting to his feet and moving to the table. Scott shifted nervously on his feet before speaking again, "Are you going to tell me who that was back there? I mean, how did you guys even know to show up?"
"I had a vision of Isaac being drugged," Elise said. "But that guy.." Her brows furrowed in confusion. She'd never seen two Alphas co-exist together. Then again, the only Alphas that Elise had met were the Hales.
