Chapter One

.........................

"James come on, no one cares about studying. Will you take us or not?" I yelled through my phone at my overly paranoid brother James who was really starting to piss me off.

Tonight was the start of the summer solstice.. whatever that means, and it also meant it was the night the "paranormal" were always extra spooky. Of course I didn't believe all that bull about ghosts and demons and what not, but hey if I got the chance to scare the shit out of my friends it's worth it right?

"I don't know Cass, what's the point in driving all the way to Broken Bridges at ten o'clock at night? You can just freak out your buddies some place closer like the backyard or something." James groaned.

"Hell no. Your taking us tonight or I'm going to spill your little secret about your undying love towards Elle." I smirked through the receiver.

"Fuck. Fine. I'll be round to pick you guys about at 9:00."

"Thanks bro love ya!" I squealed as I pressed the end call button.

I've been called the biggest bitch at Stone brook High, but I like to think of myself as a girl who ALWAYS gets what she wants. Even if that means you have to get your hands a little dirty in the process.

I was born Cassie Leanne Grant on September 13th. People in my piece of shit town just call me Cass because Cassie apparently takes to much breath to muster out. My family and I are originally from Ojai, California, but after my mom got the "job offer of a lifetime" as she calls it, we had to pack up our life as we knew it and travel across the freaking country and settle in this fine town know as Eaglewood, Georgia.

I guess you can say I wasn't cut out for the southern lifestyle. If I had my ways about it I would be on the first flight back to Ojai in an heartbeat, but mom says it's better for James and I to stay here.

My dad was a Pastor, before he was gunned down during a bank robbery back in Ojai by a guy dressed as a Nun. Yeah I know right, Jesus saves. Well Mom doesn't like to talk about daddy much. She's not very religious anymore either. After Dads grizzly departure from humanity and into the great beyond or whatever you want to call it, mom took up her career in Clinical Psychology. And that's why, unfortunately, I'm here today.

So here I am. The stereotypical mean girl of the school, yet everyone still loves me, waiting on my overly exasperating brother to pick my friends and I up AT NINE O'CLOCK. It's 9:14 by the time he arrives, and my patience is already wearing thin.

My friends Sierra, Matt, Cara, and Chris jump in the back seats of my brothers frog shit green Ford Explorer, while I hop in the passenger side, glaring at James as I set my bookbag down in the floorboard.

And so the night begins...
