Jane quickly averted her gaze from the girl, for she was beginning to feel uncomfortable with the way Olivia seemed to be reading her like one of her books. She gestured to the pictures and posters that covered her half of the room.
"As you can see, I already made myself at home," Jane gave a half-hearted chuckle, looking back up at Olivia, "I hope you don't mind."
Olivia quickly looked away and cleared her throat, "No, it's fine," She looked around the room for a moment. "I like your bedspread, by the way." she said with a smirk as she walked to her side of the room.
Jane beamed, "Really? I mean, I know it's kind of silly and immature, but I thought it would give some color to these dreary, old dorm rooms."
Olivia seemed to ignore Jane's rambling by slumping down into her bean bag chair with a sigh.
"No one informed me that I was getting a new roommate," She narrowed her eyes at Jane, who was overcome with the same discomfort she felt only moments before.
Jane pretended to pick the lint off of her favorite grey sweater, "I requested a new roommate and my counselor sent me to Dr. Gideon, I think it was. I dunno, but you were the only resident available and I was under the impression that-"
"I'm sorry, did you say Dr. Gideon sent you?" Olivia interrupted, her brows furrowed once again.
"Yes, and she-"
"That explains it," Olivia interrupted. She sighed, shaking her head and seeming more relaxed as she reached over to grab a book off of her desk.
Did I miss something? Jane thought to herself, confused. She decided against pressing her new roommate any further and turned to finish laying out the rest of her bedspread.
Great, Jane thought to herself. She hates me already.
"Wrong," Olivia quietly interrupted the silence.
Jane jumped, quickly whipping her head around to face the girl, Did I just say that out loud?!
"No! I mean, this book I'm reading! I- it's inaccurate," The words spilled out of Olivia's mouth quickly and she seemed to cringe as she waited for a reply.
Jane put her hands on her hips and stared at the girl, narrowing her eyes in suspicion. As crazy as it sounded, it was really beginning to seem like Olivia could hear Jane's thoughts.
I read somewhere that if you think someone is psychic, you mentally scream and see if they wince, She thought to herself before closing her eyes and trying her best to "mentally scream" as loud as she could. Instead, her face began to turn an odd shade of purple and red as she was holding her breath.
"What are you doing? A-are you okay? Jane!" Olivia began to get up just as Jane took an obnoxiously loud intake of breath.
"I'm fine," Jane panted in between breaths. "I thought you could hear my thoughts or something so I was seeing if you could hear me scream inside my mind," she laughed loudly at her own ridiculousness and Olivia joined half-heartedly.
"Have you tried the cafeteria food?" Jane asked in an attempt to change the subject.
Olivia made a face of disgust to which Jane replied, "Say no more. They just opened a new restaurant just down the street, wanna come check it out with me?"
Olivia hesitated and Jane began to feel a sad sense of rejection before the corners of Olivia's mouth upturned slightly, "Sure, why not?"
