It was simply too cold outside for Jane to be having such trouble with the key to her new dormitory. She had so many layers on that it was somewhat difficult to wrap her vibrant, yellow scarf back around her neck before flipping her key card around and sliding it through the key pad a second time.

"Finally," she sighed, her breath billowing out as vapor into the frigid wind as she struggled to get through the door with all of her luggage.

Immediate warmth hit Jane and she already had a good feeling about her new home away from home, especially when a piano caught her eye from across the common room. She smiled giddily to herself as she rechecked her assigned room number and made her way up the old, wicker stairway, dragging her bulky luggage behind her.

Maybe her new roommate will be the friend that Jane so desperately needed. There wasn't anything wrong with her old roommate, Ellie, except for the fact that she enjoyed partying a little too much and completely disregarded all of her classes. This resulted in Ellie flunking out of the university after only her first semester and leaving Jane on her own. Jane seemed to be more distraught over it than Ellie was, for Ellie claimed that college just wasn't her "forte" anyway. Either way, Jane had absolutely no intention of sleeping alone in those old, scary dorms, so she immediately requested a new roommate.

"Oh, how lovely!" Jane exclaimed as she opened the door to reveal her new dorm.

A vanilla scent drifted heavily from a lit candle that sat on top of an untidy desk in the far corner of the room. Jane took a deep breath in through her nose, dropped her luggage, and rushed over to the bookcase in the other corner, filled from top to bottom with books of all kinds. She read over several titles in absolute awe before noticing something white out of the corner of her eye.

Jane gasped in excitement as she plopped down onto the bean bag that sat between the desk and the bookcase, examining the rest of the room.

It was very small, as most dorm rooms are. The only other pieces of furniture there was room for was two beds and a desk, which Jane was perfectly fine with. Her half of the room seemed so empty and barren compared to the colorful side that belonged to her roommate, so she got to work with adding her own personal touch of adding pictures and posters onto all of the walls. Her bedspread, however, was her favorite part, for it was an array of all the colors of the rainbow. Ellie had originally joked that Jane's bedspread was childish and clashed with her bland, black bedspread.

Jane gasped at the thought and looked over to see if it clashed with her new roommate's bedspread, which was a beautiful shade of blue that matched the room.

She sighed in relief and began to wonder when her roommate would return from their winter break, as most classes started the next day.
Jane had leapt onto her bed, sprawled out in a ridiculous attempt to get those pesky fitted sheets on, when she heard the jingle of keys and a door swing open.

"Who the hell are you?" A demanding voice shouted from behind Jane, who was still sprawled out, peering over her shoulder at an awkward angle.

"I, uh, I'm your new roommate," Jane stated, very confused as she slowly slid off of the bed to face the girl, "Jane Woods," she reached out a hand to shake.

The girl was much taller than Jane, which wasn't an uncommon occurrence, but still just as intimidating as ever. However, Jane was also intimidated by the fact that her new roommate looked like she was straight out of a beauty magazine. Her eyes were a deep grey and resembled a storm; her eyebrows were dark and furrowed, giving Jane the feeling that she wasn't welcome here.

I wish my hair looked like that, Jane thought to herself as she admired the brunette's medium-length bob that framed her face perfectly.

After a moment of staring at each other, it almost seemed as if the girl began to blush. She looked down and took Jane's hand in a firm handshake that took Jane by surprise.

"I'm Olivia."
