"Maxine and Jane."

Max. Of course, the teacher just had to pair Jane up with the only person she hated at this school. Jane looked across the room to see the ginger girl there, who was probably rolling her eyes at the teacher's use of her full name.

Jane was barely through her first week of high school, well, any school, and this was how it was going to start. And it was ruined all because of that red head girl

with the pretty blue eyes.

"Now get with your partners, you have 4 days in class to complete this assignment, so I suggest you get started."

Jane stayed glued to her seat, a scowl on her face as flashbacks of Max and Mike played through her head.

"Uh... Hello?" Max said, disrupting Jane's thoughts. The girl waved a hand in her face and Jane glared.

"What?!" Jane snapped.

"Oh, um, I was just gonna say we should get started," Max said nervously.

The girl tucked her ginger locks behind her ear,

looking down. Jane couldn't help but notice her cute freckled face, her beautiful wavy hair that fell down to her waist, and those perfect ocean blue eyes.

What? Jane noticed everything. It wasn't like it meant anything. Did it?

The class passed, Jane and Max doing basically nothing the whole time. The bell rang, and everyone jumped out of their seats and left while Max and Jane stayed.

"Hey, I was thinking... Maybe we should meet at your place to work on the project," Max said, swinging her backpack over her shoulder.

"No." Jane said sharply.

"Wha- Why not?"

"Your place."

"Okay... See you later, Jane."

Jane felt her face getting hot for some reason, but she ignored it and walked to her next class.

The school day passed by quickly, Jane thinking about the girl she hated the whole time. She had no idea why.

"Jane!"

Jane turned around as soon as she heard a familiar voice. She saw Max and looked down as she followed her out the building, not saying a word.

Max grabbed her skateboard and tucked it under her arm, motioning for Jane to follow her while she walked farther.

"Where are we going?" Jane asked, her voice quiet and soft. She followed Max closely.

"My place." The pretty girl tucked her hair behind her ear again, which gave Jane the hot face again.

They walked all the way to a small house which Jane had never been to. The paint was chipping a little, and a window was cracked. Max snuck over to the side of the house, grabbing Jane's hand.
