I always wonder what would happen to Charles Darwin, as a companion to the captain, upon the Voyage of the Beagle if he is a girl. This is my version of Darwin's experiences through the eyes of a female Darwin. Remember that this is a fictional story, although some of the facts might be real to correspond with what happened during the voyage. There are some added/changed parts to make the story more interesting. Original work. No copyright intended.
Charles Darwin was a great British naturalist, geologist, and biologist. Although he started as a geologist upon the HMS Beagle Voyage, he's known today as having a great influence to natural sciences. He contributed enormously to the Theory of Evolution, known in his time as Transmutation (I used this term in the story instead), and Natural Selection. Upon his return from the voyage, he wrote a book, The Voyage of the Beagle, recounting his five years experiences. This book, published in 1839, brought him considerable fame and respect among England's scientists.
Years later in 1859, Darwin published another book, On the Origin of Species. This scientific literature was considered to be the foundation of evolutionary biology. He introduced the theory that life evolved over the course of generations through a process called natural selection. The organisms with the more fitted attributes to their environments will survive and passed along their genes: survival of the fittest which later termed by Herbert Spencer.
This second book aroused international interests, although there were some hostile reactions from reviewers because they didn't actually understood Darwin's theories, and widespread debates. There were serious scientific objections to the process of natural selection as the key mechanism of evolution until mid-1870s, when most scientists believed evolution to be purposeful and progressive.
Darwin married Emma Wedgwood in 1839 in an Anglican ceremony. They lived in their Macaw Cottage on Gower Street in London. Emma and Darwin had a total of ten children together, with three early deaths. The first was their oldest daughter, Anne Elizabeth Darwin. She died at the age of ten in 1841. Their second daughter, Mary Eleanor Darwin, was borned in 1842 but passed away a few weeks later. The last deaths was of their youngest son, Charles Waring Darwin, who died at the age of one and a half in 1858.
