Aidan Valentine.
No one knows anything about him. He came to school one day in the beginning of the year and never spoke a word. Teachers never called on him and no one made any effort to speak to him. Aidan was as much a mystery as my father's disappearance and my mother's death. The only thing that was made obvious was his wealth. A couple years ago, construction on a house had begun. And last year, Aidan moved in.
He was the typical brooding teenager that seemed to hate the world and everything in it.
Which is why I was surprised when he approached me during lunch. I was walking home when he ran up to me and matched my pace.
"You're Beckett Disalvo, right?" His voice was rich and deep. I would be lying if I said it didn't give me chills in this already cold weather.
I nodded and kept going.
"You're the girl whose dad disappeared, right?"
I stopped short but resumed walking.
"Who the hell are you?" I knew who he was, but I didn't know what else to say.
"Aidan. I've seen you around school, you know."
"Congratulations." I began to walk faster but Aidan matched my pace with ease.
"I saw you with your sister today."
"You know, it sounds like you're following me."
Aidan chuckled. "Well, we go to school together. I can't help it if I see you from time to time."
"That's funny, because I've never actually seen you around school before." At this point, I was practically running. Aidan gave off an aura of trouble. I didn't trust him one bit.
Aidan shrugged his shoulders and put his hands in his pockets. His breath could be seen in the cold weather. "I like to stay invisible."
By this time, we had gotten to my house. I opened the door and let him inside. As soon as I closed the door, Aidan had me up against the door with his hands around my neck while I held a knife against his.
He smiled and shook his head. I glared at him and pressed the knife a little harder against his neck.
"Now I'm really starting to wonder who you are," I said. His hands tightened around my neck as he chuckled and looked into my eyes.
"I already told you; I'm Aidan Valentine."
"Who are you really? How did you know what happened to my father?"
"Put your knife down and I'll answer you."
I scoffed, "Take your hands off me and I'll put my knife down."
Aidan smirked and loosened his hands a tad. "We'll do it together, okay angel? Count of three; one... two... three."
Neither of us moved an inch.
Aidan raised an eyebrow. "What happened to the count of three?"
I swallowed in an attempt to moisten my dry mouth and said, "I don't fucking trust you."
He laughed and looked down for a second. "Good choice."
"Yeah, I would say so considering the fact that you didn't back down either."
Aidan just smiled at me and moved closer to me. “You’re smart, angel. Can I call you that, angel? It’s what you are, right?”
I gritted my teeth and swallowed again. “It doesn’t matter who I am. I just want to know who the fuck you are.”
