"So that's meatballs, sandwiches, devilled eggs, and wings. New Years cupcakes and frozen yogurt for desserts, what do you think?" Hours before, she recounted everything to make sure we weren't missing anything.

"Perfect mom." I answered.

"Sounds like a woman with a game plan." Matthew made us all laugh, I hadn't seen my mom belt out like that in a while. We haven't been like that with each other for a long time either.

"You're not so bad in the kitchen either Matty. Oh honey, I must so rude. Don't you have family you want me to invite over? I can give them a call." She panicked to find the house phone.

"No." He said quickly. "No, it's okay. He's busy."  His eyes grew sad, but I didn't want to make it worse by bringing up anything.

"Are you sure?"

"Of course."

"Okay. Well, if you need anything honey, you're always welcome in this house." She casually invited him over, easier than I could've ever done.

"Thank you." He smiled at her then gazed over at me. He gestured towards the living room, and I stood to follow him.

"I'm gonna hop in the shower and prepare for guests, I can leave you boys to the décor right?" It seemed she beat us to the door first.

"Y-yeah, yeah, sure mom." She scrunched up her nose at my answer.

"Nothing trashy Henri!" She cackled running away and up the stairs to our bathroom. It was only ever a silly phase, and I felt my face burn up with those words.

"Trashy?" Matthew grinned.

"Please don't ask." I wiped my face, then proceeded to grab the decorations bag.

"Oh I'm asking." Matthew grinned wider while nudging into my shoulder.

"N-nothing bad happened, just a few accidents here and there."

"His first kiss was an accident!" She cackled and I felt myself burning up, she did not have to tell him that.

"You're first kiss?" He nudged me again, slyness grew in his eyes. "Oh Henri, do tell more."

I threw the tape at him, "No way." I laughed and he pounced at me.

"Oh really?" He chuckled and let his light body pin me onto the ground. "That's how we're playing?"

"Matthew."  I laughed and pushed his face away. "You're breath stinks."

"Does it now?"

"Uh-huh."

He leaned down closer on me and locked lips with me in a small kiss. Then a larger one. I wrapped my arms around him as the kiss got deeper, and I could barely breathe. Our kisses broke and we looked at each other for a short laugh. We locked lips again and I felt his hand stroke through my hair.

"It's gotten awfully quiet down there boys!" I heard my mom creeping and shoved Matthew off in a rush.

"U-uh! Um! Argh." I stumbled over my words.

"Just down here showing little ol' Henri who's boss." Matthew winked at me.

"Once you're done, can you wash the dishes for me hon?" She asked and I heard the shower turn on.

"Okay!" I stood up quickly and ran off into the kitchen. Be still me beating heart! What were just doing? Oh my god. Matthew is dating Lauren! I can't allow myself to make any misunderstandings.

By the time I finished the dishes, Matthew was already finished decorating, and by himself. It looked nice, but it was getting late. I walked in the living room to find Matthew, but he was asleep on the couch. He looked so peaceful, I didn't want to wake him but it wasn't the best idea.

As I reached down, he grabbed my hand. "I'm not asleep you know." He grinned, eyes still shut. I shook, flustered. "Why are you shaking?" He laughed at me.

"I-I don't know." I stuttered.

"Mhm. Good morning." He stretched and looked outside. "Since it's New Years, am I cheating for taking an early nap?" He still hasn't let my hand go.

"N-not at all." I took my hand away. He stared at me intently. "W-what?"

"Does my breath really stink?" He covered his mouth.

I laughed. "Of course it doesn't." I felt tears roll down my cheek as I breathed heavily.

"Aren't you just a jokester?" He attacked me, and I honestly couldn't feel a thing from how hard I was laughing.

"Well aren't you two close?" My mom walked up to us, making us freeze. Firstly, she had caught us acting strange. Secondly, she was beautiful. I haven't seen her wear makeup in a long time, and her black dress made it really seem like a party.

"M-m-m-mom!" I was shocked.

"Aren't you a sight for sore eyes miss?" Matthew goofily got up and held out his hand to my mom. She grabbed it and they danced around in a jig.

"The party hasn't even started and I've had so much fun to last me a decade. You boys, go get ready. Mom's taking over." She stumbled into the kitchen wearing strappy sandals.

"Oh mom."  I covered my face and Matthew snorted.

"Let's take her word for it." He smiled.

"O-oh yeah. You can use the shower first." We walked upstairs.

"Thanks, and sorry to bother you, but those are my only clothes." He pointed to his hoodie in my laundry basket. For the past few days, Matthew has been wearing my pajamas around the house.

"I might have spare outfit somewhere." Mom gave me all of dad's hand-me-downs when he left, and a few don't fit, but I'm sure a pair or two will.

After Matthew got in the shower, I looked around in my closet for the old suits. I pulled out a pair of pants that looked about Matthew's size, a vest, coat, button-down, and blazer. It may be too much, but just to be on the safe side.

"Muahaha!" I heard a cackle, and fell down on my elbows.

"Oof!"
