Lying in bed, Adrienne stayed awake. Her mind going everywhere. All her life, she has been told stories of so many unpredictable things. She heard stories about Abigale Hook and her adventures with her grandfather, Captain James Hook and how he took her away from her abusive parents. Though Abigale didn't get bitten, she wanted revenge for her grandfather's sake.

Adrienne read stories of two mysterious friends who wandered the mountains of Utah. The young one, Mailey, was a wolf-type. Her ears were as a wolf's. Her arms and legs were as a wolf's, but only up to the elbows and knees. She was the curious one, and always getting into trouble. Obsidian was the oldest, more mature one. She made sure everything was in shape, no knot in the rope. She had the ability to fly. Her wings black as night could take her anywhere she wanted and could be good camoflauge. She was one of Adrienne's favorites.

Quedia Melode. She was Adrienne's top favorite. She was born with abilities no one knew about. Her abilities were stong, though it was hard to hide them, for she knew she would be locked away and tested on if anyone knew. Her powers consisted of turning invisible, controlling fire, and to make people see things that aren't there.

Adrienne loved these stories. It seemed to her that she couldn't live without these stories. Sometimes she believed that these stories were true, that the adventures of Abigale and her grandfather on their flying ship existed. She thought that if she looked out the window into the sky, she would see a flying ship, having Abigale waving down to her. She thought that there was actually a wolf girl and a winged girl in the mountains. Adrienne would search sightings in the Utah mountains on the internet, see if she could find images of Mailey and Obsidian. Adrienne would search humans with powers on the internet, try to find Quedia. She'd think she would actually meet the characters in her books. She thought it would be destiny.

"ADRIENNE!!" Adrienne's mother, Lucy, called from downstairs. "If you don't come down here in the next two minutes, I'm coming up there to get you myself!"

Lucy was the typical strict mother that you sometimes meet. She would punish Adrienne or her brother if they did something wrong. In Adrienne's mind, she always called her mother the "Big Bad Mother." Of course, she never told her mother beacause that would get Adrienne killed. Literally.

"I'll be down in a sec!" Adrienne yelled back, putting her glasses on and grabbed her book. Once she looked at the time, she almost dropped her book. Her mind went from focused to confused. "Huh. I remember last time I looked at the time it was 4:23 AM. Now it's 7:47 AM? Weird. Guess I've been imagining for a while, huh?" Adrienne chuckled at herself. She shook the thought away and headed downstairs. She found her family sitting at the table. They all had impatient looks on their faces. "About time you got up," Adrienne's father, James, said.

"S-sorry, dad," Adrienne managed to say. "I kind of got lost in thought."

"What do you mean 'kind of'?" Adrienne's brother, Alex, laughed. "There's no such thing! Either you did it or you didn't do it! Is or is not! Yes or no! There's no such thing as kind of!"

"That's my boy!" James exclaimed. "See, Adrienne, those are the words you're supposed to live by! Noy kind of! Not maybe! Not almost!" He began listing off all the possible words "not to live by."

'Yeah, yeah, I get it dad. Just cut to the chase!' Adrienne thought. But apparently, there was no chase. It was just her father trying to be smarter than everyone.

"How about we have some breakfast?" Adrienne attempted, trying to stop her dad from going too far.

"We already had breakfast," Lucy fussed. "you took too long day dreaming about those silly stories."

"I wasn't day dreaming," Adrienne complained. "And they aren't silly stories. They're classics written by famous writers."

"Yeah, yeah, whatever," Lucy was obviously trying to get Adrienne to stop talking. "I already know enough history and famous people. But guess what? I don't care. So since you talked back to me like that, I'm keeping you home from school. No T.V., no computer, no snacks, no coming out of your bedroom...Unless you need to use the bathroom. Got it?"

"okay, sheesh," Adrienne started up to her room. How she hated being here.
