I sat on the floor, eating the food Sydney brought me. It wasn't the best, but it would do. Sydney was a great mom for me, though, she's not even a mom. I'd consider her more of an older sister taking care of the young one while the parents are out. Yeah, she's a good older sister. Though, sometimes she would get serious and give me jobs I don't want to do. But I'm sure she's doing it because she loves me. Because she wants me to be safe. Yeah, that sounds about right.

"Sydney," I say. "Do you ever think there will be a bad animal lose in the mountains? And it might hurt us? Or maybe we can teach it to be our pet?"

"I don't know, Mailey," Sydney responded. "I don't see why an animal would get lose and run all the way up here just to be our pet. Some animals don't even like being pets. At least, I don't think so."

"Oh...Well, can I go play outside?" I jump up from my sitting position.

Sydney thinks for a while. "Okay," she finally says. "But be careful. You don't know what might be watching from the bushes."

"Nice try, but you don't scare me, Sydney," I joked.

"I know, I know," Sydney said, defeated. Mwa ha ha! "But still, there are dangerous animals roaming the mountains. You never know what's going to be there."

"Okay. I'm going now!" I run outside into the cold weather. since we lived here for I don't know how long, both of us were used to the cold. My favorite type of weather is when it's snowing. I love catching the tiny snowflakes on my tongue! Sometimes it's a challenge, but the big ones are my favorite! Not that they have a different taste, but it's just easier to catch them.

I run all around the space in front of our cave. It's sometimes nice to run and get all my energy out. But sometimes I just do it for fun. I like to stop and look at the view every now and then. It's a beautiful sight to see. I hope Sydney would take me out for a fly some day, but she says it's dangerous. She says that sometimes huge, flying machines would come by and she would have to hide. She said they were something like giant, iron birds but they don't flap their wings. It's scary to think about it.

So, here I am, running and having fun! But then I hear something. A little rustle in the bush. I crouch down, stalking the bush. It keeps rustling. Then, a little mouse pops out! It's cute, but soon it's gonna be my snack. I wait until it turns around. When the time is right, I pounce on him! He tries to wriggle out of my grasp, but I keep a good grip on him.

"Sydney, look!" I yell, running towards the cave. "I got us a tiny snack! I mean, he's cute, but he would do great for a snack, right?"

"Yeah, I guess," Sydney doesn't seem interested. So, I offer her the mouse.

"I don't want it, though. You can have it!" I give it to Sydney.

"Well..." She says. I give her my best puppy eyes. "Oh, alright." Sydney takes it.

"Yay!" I yell.

"Wait a second," Sydney says. This was your plan all along, wasn't it, you sneaky fox?"

"Maybe...But I'm not a fox! I'm a wolf!"

"Not just any wolf," Sydney embraces me in a hug. "You're my wolf."
