Soaring through the night air, Obsidian searched for food and water. Sometimes she had to get the food from trash cans. And sometimes she even had to steal from people's homes. Water, though, was not very hard to look for. Obsidian had very keen eyesight, so it wasn't too hard to look for things. It was actually fun for her to fly because she felt unstoppable, untouchable. She felt like the world didn't matter when she flew. It felt like she was the only one on earth. Well, not when planes came close by. Then she would have to struggle to stay under it because she had to stay out of sight. Who would think a girl with black wings and skin would be normal?

Obsidian stopped in her tracks, hearing her "sister's" howls. That was another thing she worried about. Mailey. The only other girl she lived with. Whenever Obsidian heard Mailey's howls, she knew something was wrong. That something had broken into their cave or Mailey got hurt. Sometimes it was a false alarm and Mailey was either hungry or thirsty. So, Obsidian flew as fast as she could, not wanting to leave Mailey alone for too long.

'I'm coming, Mailey,' Obsidian thought. 'Hold on!"

Obsidian couldn't do anything other than worry at this point. She cared about Mailey and she didn't know what she would do without her. As Mailey's howls went on, Obsidian got more and more worried. Once she got in earshot of the cave, she could hear Mailey calling her name.

"Mailey! I'm here! What's wrong? Where's the intruder?!" Obsidian kind of freaked out when she got there.

"Sydney! I'm hungry!" Mailey whined. "Where's the food?"

Obsidian looked around the cave. Everything was in shape, nothing out of the ordinary. No intruder, no human, nothing. She had a dissapointed look on her face.

"Mailey," Obsidian glared at Mailey, who gave her a wolf-like whine. "How many times have I told you? No howling when you're hungry or thirsty. You know this. Do I have to give you another lecture, puppy?"

"No..." Mailey looked to the ground. "I'm just hungry..."

Obsidian sighed. "Fine. Here it is. But next time you howl because of this, you're looking for food in the mountains." Mailey sat up straight and gobbled the food quickly.

"What about you, Sydney? Are you going to eat?" Mailey often uses Obsidian's nickname.

"I'm fine. You're the youngest, so you need more food. I'll get mine later."

"Okay." Mailey continued to eat while Obsidian watched for predators. She wouldn't say it was easy living with Mailey in the mountains with little predators, but it's better than nothing. Right?
